An old, white rancher basically lives off government subsidies, steals government land for decades, and brings a bunch of armed friends when the government decides that enough is enough and tries to remove his cattle from federal land? It’s the equivalent of FOX News backing someone committing welfare fraud (á la Reagan’s classic “Welfare Queen” myth) who then screams “get your dirty government hands off my welfare!” and waves a gun around when the local officials cut off her welfare under all but her real name and address. Of course, if that was what was going on, FOX would be screaming about how the government should have arrested that lazy welfare queen…
