Burn in Hell, Federal Express!!!

Last week I ordered a game through Amazon.com. I have been tracking it’s progress since via it’s tracking number. Here are the latest results…

OK, the first sign things were going bad was when I saw that the package arrived here in Dallas on the 29th, and nothing was done with it for over a day, but it was a weekend, and the scheduled delivery date wasn’t until today, so I understood they might give priority to packages they had longer.

But today they send the package to Garland (a suburb of Dallas), and it is returned to a FedEx center for pickup because they couldn’t find the address or something like that. No wonder, the address is in Dallas, not Garland. I verified with the company I purchased it from that they provided the correct address. Now I’m probably not going to be able to pick up my package until the 2nd, as I don’t get off work until late and I’m sure the FedEx office will be closed tomorrow.

At least FedEx will attempt to deliver it as quickly as possible. The boys in brown diss those of us who live in rural USA until a truckful is ready. I got the last statement directly from a UPS driver, shortly after their last contract was ratified.

If you call them, they might be able to straighten it out for you and get it delivered.

I ordered something and by my own fault mis-typed my own address. I was tracking it and watched as it came up “no such address exists”. One quick phone call got my package delivered the same day.

I’m also really unhappy with FedEx this year. My family was visiting us from Montana, and my 14-year-old brother had a present coming that was scheduled for delivery on the 26th. FedEx’s website showed that it had made it to Seattle on the night of the 23rd, so we thought we’d actually have it early for Christmas. Nope. Didn’t show up on the 26th. Didn’t show up on the 27th. On the 28th, family (including a very disappointed brother) drove back to Montana, after called FedEx and requesting the package be re-routed to their home.

Guess what showed up on my doorstep yesterday morning?

I called FedEx and they claimed they couldn’t do anything about it. So I sent it to Montana via USPS. I’d rather pay for priority mail than give FedEx a second chance to misdirect it.

The USPS is often the brunt of many jokes, but damn that’s the method of shipping I can usually count on. Pretty good considering the volumn they handle.

We moved into our apartment just three months ago: the last time the Fed Ex man came, he just dropped the package on the door step, rapped on the door and left. Today we were getting two gigs of SDRAM delivered, and didn’t really want it to sit out front. We were waiting on him. He did it again, and I was out the door in a flash, but he was still half way back to the truck. I said “Hey–in the future, please don’t just leave stuff here. If we aren’t here, either redeliver teh enxt day or drop it off at the main office.” He says “Oh, I could hear you were in there.” Like people never have the radio on when they aren’t there, or ever don’t hear a knock?

I asked him to please wait in the future until we came to the door. If he continues to drop stuff and run in the future, I am going to be very wroth. The only thing that ever comes Fed Ex is computer parts, and the most valuble of those come in small packages.

I love FedEx. I hate UPS. I know my FedEx guy, and somehow, he makes packages that would take most people a week to get appear in 2-3 days for me. He also can read, and follow my instructions for delivery–like if I want my neighbor to sign for something or if he can leave it in the apartment (and lock the door afterward). Also, if I put special instructions in at fedex.com, they actually will follow them.

UPS cannot do any of that. I had gotten a free DVD player as part of a promotion for signing up for DSL service (which I was going to do anyway…but the DVD player just made the deal even better). However, the company would only ship UPS, despite my pleas to ship it FedEx (I would have paid extra for FedEx). UPS shows upon a Friday, no one is home. I go to their website and ask for delivery on Wednesday. They try again on Monday–no answer. They try again on Tuesday, again no answer. Hint–that’s why I wanted delivery on Wednesday because I would be there. Tuesday they decided that it would be prudent to let a neighbor sign for the DVD player. Not knowing which neighbor I want to sign for things, they just randomly pick one. They pick Smelly Old Guy–a crazy old guy who smells like B.O. and cigarettes and likes to shuffle around the hall in his underwear and talk to himself. He signs for the DVD player, and he did let me know that he had a package for me. So I did get the DVD player. But I was furious with UPS. I did what I should have done to change the delivery date, and they didn’t do it. And then they left it with the neighbor that you can smell before you see him. Ick. Needless to say, they got reamed and I will no longer ship with them. I also will not order from any company that doesn’t give me a FedEx shipping option.

I am, in fact, at this very moment sitting here being mad at FedEx.

So, on the 20th I place an order with a company who’s going to ship me my thingy via FedEx. The company says it should get here in 6-7 days. The package actually arrives in my city at 3 am on the 24th. Now, I would think that they’d have enough time given that entire day to get it to me, but I can excuse their letting it sit there all day cause it’s Christmas Eve and they’re probably busy. 25th, they’re closed. 26th, they’re closed. 27th, the estimated delivery date seen on their online tracking page, still no package. Around 11 pm I look it up-- DELIVERED: 27TH, 8:30 PM. SIGNED FOR BY: FRONT DOOR. Um…no…I was here all night. No package. No one knocked, no one left a package at the front door. So we give them a call and they say they’ll have to contact the local office and have them contact the driver. We should get a call back by 2 pm on the 28th. 2:30 pm on the 28th…no call. So I call and all they can tell me is there’s no new notes in the file, so I should get a call by 8 pm. 8 pm…no call. I call back. They tell me there’s no new notes, but the driver’s usually call back within 12-48 hours, so possibly I’ll still get a call that night but more likely I’ll get a call on Monday, the 30th. Guess they’re closed on Sundays. No call or delivery by 5 pm on the 30th, so I call again. This guy tells me they’re actually closed on Monday as well, and there’s still no new notes on the file, so I should get a call on Tuesday. Tuesday 5 pm the 31st…now something new on the online tracking has shown up. Says the package has arrived at the Austin sort facility. Okaay. Now, if the guy had indeed delivered it, but to the wrong appartment, and he had to go back and pick it up, why didn’t he just deliver it to us right then? We were only like one building away. So it’s slated for delivery today! And now it’s…quarter to eight. They stop delivering at 8ish, 8thirty. Okay, FedEx. You’ve got less than an hour.

Well, it turns out it couldn’t be delivered because the shipper forgot to include my apartment number - they admitted it was their fault.

Federal Express, you do not need to burn in Hell, for now at least…though you should have at least checked with the office to see which apartment I lived in.

An update:
Well, even though Badtz Maru has recanted his origional curse on FedEx, I haven’t.
They still haven’t delivered my package.
I called them back finally, around 9 pm tonight, and again they tell me something new. This time, she says the ‘delivery’ on the 27th was a scanning mistake. Actually, he tried to deliver it once on the 24th and again on the 28th. Interesting, considering I was home all day, as far as I can remember, on both those occasions. Especially interesting considering no note was left on either ‘attempt’. Hmm, could that curious jerking feeling I’m having be someone pulling my leg? Jerks. And supposedly, the package actually was sent out on the guy’s truck today. So where is my freaking package?!?!?! Another trace has been put on it, but they’ll get back to me on Thursday at the earliest, since they’re closed for New Year’s Day.

Days my package has been in the same city as me: eight.
Days since the screw-up: four.

ARGH!!

I had a Fed Ex package and it took nine days to arrive, when regular snail mail to the same region took three days. And one was delivered to me and the guy just left it on my porch, didn’t even knock. Jerk.

I’ve never had FedEx get me to sign for anything; they always just leave it at the door.

UPS, OTOH, always gets a sig…and I’m gonna have to give 'em props, because I mailed a package on the 23rd of this month, two days before Christmas, using REGULAR GROUND DELIVERY, and they got it there the very next day. Considering their Christmas volume, and the fact that they didn’t have to get it there any earlier than Friday, I was pretty damn pleased with 'em.

This may be petty, but I just don’t like the fact that FedEx just leaves stuff on my stairs. They don’t even knock; they just leave it there. Luckily I have nice neighbors, but if I didn’t, I could’ve lost several Christmas gifts because of FedEx’s laziness.

My most recent perishable thingy was sent by FedEx 2-day express. It took more than 4 work days. Two it seems to have spent hanging out loaded on a truck one town over. Any these are not very small towns. It was then left, precariously on its very narrow edge, without a knock or doorbell ring.
