Burn Notice 6/28 (new series on USA -- spoilers)

I enjoyed it, but I’m with my wife on this one: Gabrielle Anwar is not good in this part. She either needs to tone it down, or get the hell off the show.

I missed the first episode but caught the one lat night. It was okay. I might watch it again, but it’s not “must see” at this point.

Plus, is it just me, or does the lead sort of look like a fair skinned Tiger Woods?

It’s an enjoyable show, except for the part where they have an IRA “operative” as a heroine. What were the writers thinking? Is it cool to be a terrorist as long as you don’t kill too many USians and you’re hot and white?

I kinda thought Fiona was supposed to be morally ambiguous … but she hasn’t shown a real dark side just yet. Was a little disappointed that she got over her spat with Sam so readily in last night’s episode. One minute she’s throwing crap at Sam, and the next they’re working together cozily, if snarkily? Shoulda drawn that out some more.

Hey … maybe she was an IRA mole, an “infiltrator” if you will  Nah, the writers probably didn’t think too many American viewers would connect the dots on what being in the IRA really meant.

I like it a lot and have it on my DVR list.

It reminds me a little bit of the old TV version of Mission Impossible…the schemes and plans to catch the bad guys by outwitting them, not just having bigger guns and more bullets.

The one jarring note was when Sam and Fiona identified themselvs as “Cagney and Lacey” to Bonnie and Greg (or whatever their names were). As if anybody would be taken in. “Yeah, right, and I’m Harry Callahan.” I realize it was an in-joke about Sharon Gless, but still…

Well, given that Greg and Bonnie were young and not-so-bright, it’s entirely possible that they had no clue who Cagney and Lacey were. The younger generation doesn’t know all sorts of things you take for granted. Trust me on this one. Cultural references that resonate for you are a total blank to the majority of Youth today.

<grumble grumble>

I think this show has a LOT of potential. The lead has the makings of a very good straight man. If they play him off against Bruce Campbell’s comedic talent, could be an excellent show.

Yeah, Cagney and Lacey went off the air in 1988. Guessing these two are about 23 at the most, it might have been gone before their brains retained memories, and the show hasn’t exactly had a prolific syndication record. And the DVD release only happened 2 months ago.

I put this in a season pass and just watched the first two episodes.

I like it. Reminds me of The Equalizer except he did quit being spy and is reluctant about helping anyone.

I love the voice over narration. I like the titles given to the new characters. The weak spot so far is the IRA girllfriend.

From the second episode, it looks like Fiona is going to ditch the Irish accent. I’m all for that.

 McCall put an ad in the newspaper specifically (though ambiguously) offering his services to anyone who felt the odds were against them. Most of the episodes originated with somebody responding to the ad.

Given the relative lack of interest on the boards, I didn’t think this merited a new thread, but the first season has now ended and I’m curious what everyone thought.

I was a bit annoyed at first with some of the hoops Mr. Bad Ass Spy would jump through instead of just killing the lowlifes of the week, but then they would have been really short episodes my way. Overall, though, I’ve been pretty pleased and looking forward to next season and the further revelations behind the burn notice.

Anyone else been watching?

Heck yes- I’ve been really enjoying the show. Fiona doesn’t even annoy me as much as she did in the pilot- I think that getting rid of her Irish accent (even in such a silly manner) went a long way towards making her palatable.

Am I the only one who kind of expected Sam (Bruce Campbell) to get killed off in the last episode? I don’t know why I expected it so much, though.

I caught the marathon, after missing most of them. It’s outstanding, although I don’t know how long they could keep the plot going, tricking the bad guys with the help of the sidekicks.

I figure “just killing the lowlifes” would involve him in a lot of explaining and some unwanted interviews with the police. It may be more difficult to get “unburned” if he’s been popping off the locals.

I wonder if a change in location is going to bring all new characters. He sent his mom and Nate away, said his good-byes to Fiona, and said good-bye to Sam in a way, although he borrowed Sam’s ride. It’s going to be hard to wait 9 or 10 months for the new season.

I loved the season finale; UGH to having to wait until next summer for more! I think Westen’s mystery lady is going to turn out to be Sam’s girlfriend; it just seemed a waste to drop Audrey Landers in there for such a brief cameo.

Great series, start to finish. I like a show set in Miami that doesn’t spend all its time on girls in bikinis. I don’t know why we have to wait until next summer for season 2. Great plan with these abbreviated, delayed seasons. Give everyone enough time to forget about them before bringing them back.

Yeah, I’ve been watching (and TiVo’ing) too. Probably my favorite show of the summer and I was so glad to hear they got picked up for another season. I didn’t like the very, very ending though, since I wanted to know why the Burn Notice! I don’t want to wait until next summer!!

The obvious plot for next season would be for him to con whoever he is working for with the help of Fiona and Sam.
