Burn Notice - Burt Reynolds

Burt guested on Burn Notice tonight. He did a good job playing a retired spy.

review of the episode here.

I’m still enjoying the show. It does seem to be running out of gas. Michael Weston is slowly getting less and less likable. I expect Fiona to leave for good any time.

I’m not sure what happened to the Weston character. Wasn’t he supposed to reconnect with his humanity in Miami? He spent time with his mom. Helping people in trouble seemed to soften his harden shell in the early seasons. Somehow the writers lost control. He’s becoming a bigger and bigger a-hole since last season.

An arc? Setting up for something big that brings him back around?

The story is (slowly) developing. Mike’s having to do some things he doesn’t particularly care for to get back “in,” and you know he’s laying awake at night questioning hisself, his goals, everything. It was even alluded to in this episode.

I liked the bit when Michael asked Sam if he could find the place where Burt Reynolds character was. “Mike, it’s a bar.”

I’m guessing they’re setting Michael up for some tragedy (or near-tragedy) followed by epiphany, which brings him back around. But you’re right, he’s not very likable at this stage of the journey.

I liked the scene where Burt tells them he’ll kick their butt if they call him “ole man” again.

Even at his age, Burt can still snarl and play the bad ass. Brings back memories of Gator and White Lighting. Two of his best early movies.

I just watched a sneak peak clip of the episode on Hulu. Burt’s face has had so much work done on it, I have to admit that it’s creeping me out. I’m not sure I want to see the episode now. :frowning:

The Banana Fish Bar? Was that a reference to JD Salinger?

Actually, the quote was, "You call me ‘old-timer’ again, you’re gonna be wearing your ass around your head - like a hat.” - which was even funnier.
