Burn Notice is back!

Yeah, do women really go around…nekkid…like that?

Dude don’t fall for that! Yes its true, many of the local women do sunbathe topless, but us Nordic types are just not meant for that type of life. If there is no danger of starving during the upcoming winter we start acting like retarded degenerates, stay out of there, you won’t like what you turn into over there.

Come to Arkansas, where in July and August at 103 F the lawyers and businessmen walk the streets of downtown Little Rock in three piece suits.
Folks have been know to die from heat exhaustion just watching them.

So with his burn notice still in place and his assets still frozen, what are the advantages of Management laying off of him? (When I hear Management I hear Linda Hunt’s voice from Carnivale.)

There are no advantages. The conversation with Sam and Fi established that he was a spy for love of country. These guys fucked with him and his ability to serve his country. Getting away from management is a step closer to being able to serve his country again.
There may very well be some testosterone poisoning involved as well as patriotism.

Was the “patriot” remark for real? I don’t really remember, but it seemed be Sam’s answer for why Mike was a spy because he didn’t know any other reason. But Mike never has explained why he likes being a spy. And why he would rather be a spy for the government than working for “management.”

The only real advantage is that it’s “progress.” Everything is worse now, but it’s a step in a direction away from the “burn” conspiracy.

The word isn’t used. Fi asks, “Love of country? After what it’s done to him?” and Sam replies that she couldn’t understand it.

That shows that he’s evil. Like Michael and Fi with their obsessive healthy lifestyle he eats Yogurt, but he taints it with Beer. Sam Axe of course is an unrepentant drunk, but that’s because he is the lovable sidekick and it’s ok that he gets drunk because he’s big and cuddly.

It shows Michael’s ascetic lifestyle and the discipline it engenders. The brogurt was to reveal to us just how sloppy Harlan is.

Just saw it from DVR… man I missed this show! I didn’t realize just how much until I saw it again.

Having just been to Miami Beach a month ago for vacation… oh yes.

I took it more as the thrill of being a spy. Outsmarting the other guy, etc. rather than simple patriotism.

And any pretense of wearing a bra

So glad to have it back and it started off so well. I think it’s going to get really intense in the coming episodes now that his family is a target and I’m guessing that eventually Fiona is going to get in trouble since there are so many enemies coming after him now.

Definitely rewatching the premiere on Hulu too…it was quality.

No, someone will have a Fiona accident, a’la Carla.

Finally.

Another good episode, I thought. I find all the techniques they use interesting…reverse interrogation. Huh.

Sam and Fee and Michael certainly work well together. I like how she was annoyed with Michael for storing the C-4 instead of using it.

I think Michael is more than a match for the detective…heck, Sam half-drunk could outwit her.

I love summer.

I hope she doesn’t become a regular character, though.
Anyone know if reverse interrogation is really used?

I disagree. he gets his job done very well every week. He is a drinker and likes it. But not a drunk.

I’ve never heard of it. While quite clever as a solution to the problem, the cold reading aspect of it seemed much more likely to blow it all than would make it feasible. Cold reading in the real world largely depends on the target being stupid, inattentive, and -wanting- to believe.

Having watched through a significant portion of the old Mission: Impossible TV shows, it was nice to see a technique I’d never seen before, on the other hand. (Though I think M:I was, in general, more clever a show, even if only because they used some sci fi elements.)

I liked this episode less than most, for two reasons:
[ol]
[li]Sam getting the bad guy to buy into the reverse interrogation plan was ludicrous. He flashes some lights, pulls him over, shows a badge, claims to be a bad cop…and the guy just buys it? Please. Usually the writers are much better than that, and the cons much more believable. I could not suspend my disbelief this time, though.[/li][li]The separated couple getting back together due to the son’s kidnapping - ugh. Not only was it ridiculously cliche, but the super-obvious parallel to Fi/Michael was sledge-hammered into us, while neon signs flashed in the background and clowns with bullhorns announced it. This is a problem that’s happened in previous episodes (always with Michael/Fi romance issues), but it was particularly egregious in this one.[/li][/ol]
I did like Michael’s expression when he ate the birthday cake, though. Now that was some good acting

I’ve noticed, though, that they do that a lot…instant business relationship within minutes of meeting someone, whether it’s a client or a target. I enjoy the show so much that I’m willing to let some stuff slide, because it’s such good fun.
