Doubtful that many Dopers would follow Overseas territories politics but our Premier was arrested today December 11, 2012.
Cayman Islands Premier W. McKeeva Bush was arrested on suspicion of theft, breach of trust, abuse of office, and conflict of interest.
In April 2012 the Royal Cayman Islands Police confirmed Bush has been the subject of at least three police investigations related to financial irregularities and involvement in attempting to facilitate importation of explosive without the proper permits.
This comes just days after Michael Mistick, former premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands, was arrested at an airport in Brazil. Mistick was a fugitive. The UK suspended the TCI constitution and imposed direct rule over that Overseas Territory following Mistick’s ouster after a Commission of Inquiry.
Cayman awaits to see what the home country will do now.
