I got into a HUGE argument with my brother in April about the coming war. (Me against, him very strongly for).
We later agreed never to talk politics again.
You can still just frown and shake your head sadly whenever you hear the subject come up. Without saying a word, that will still get the point across that you were right factually and morally, and still are. He won’t have a reply because you haven’t said anything. But you must be sure your expressions convey weary sadness, not nyah-nyah-ness.
That damned exocomp episode gets me every time. Not only is it a rehash of “Measure of a Man”, but Data’s conduct is totally outrageous. Emerging machine intellegence or no, he deserves to be courtmarshalled for locking out the transporter controls and endangering Geordi and the Captain like that.
Excuse me, Mr. President, but could you go over this real slow? What I hear you saying is that someone who thinks Iraq presents a bona fide new recruiting field for Islamic terrorist organizations is basically the equivalent of some airy-fairy type who thinks a good therapist would help al-Qaeda members work out their aggressions peacably.
Same guy compared mass anti-war demonstrations, with millions of people, many of whom had never before acted politically, begging him not to do it, to focus groups.
Ugh! That one sucked balls. Yet another “Gee willikers, it’s a new life form” episode. That show was getting so that every time Picard took a shit it was a new life form.
Makes me wonder if he ever even looked at 1441. It’s quite explicit, and the U.N. was already taking the specified action. It’s kind of scary how he mixes 2 different arguments, i.e. “The world is a better place without Saddam” - but then slips in the reference to 1441 as if to imply the war was somehow justified by the resolution. Nice try…:wally
I also like how England keeps getting upgraded to “the others”. Kind of like the theme song to Gilligan’s Island: “and the rest…”
Fox and the GOP, up in a tree K I S S I N G (repost from a different thread):
Rupert Murdock got his bribe-- Direct TV handed to him through the Bush Adminstration through some heavily lobbied for anti-trust rulings blocking the Echostar merger then we he got that deal killed, rubber stamping his own merger. Halburton, Enron, Energy policy for sale behind closed doors, ect. Remember the good old days when a crappy AK land deal and a protein stained dress were considered poor behavior? Too bad Bill wasn’t a Pubbie, if he was he would have had an Aircraft Carrier named after himself by now.
