Okay, I’ll bite. Why is that a good thing?
Because you just know he’d start a war over it.
Ir’s not really accurate to call that “groping”. Sure, it has absolutely no place in that setting, but it’s just a friendly gesture that people use here all the time. In an odd sort of way, it’s probably Bush’s method of saying he thinks of her as “one of the guys”.
BTW, I can’t help but laugh my ass off while wathcing that video of Bush. My God, but he looks like an utter buffoon. I’d like to see the reaction of Blair had he done that to him.
Bush Sr. was quite effective in his foreign politics, too. He’d have been an asset to Bush Jr’s administration as Secretary of State or Ambassador to the UN.
Hell, I post Bush-bashing threads more often than that!
Enjoy,
Steven
Sorry, gotta disagree with that. I work with a lot of men and women in a professional setting, I’ve never once seen anyone give anyone else a backrub in the middle of a meeting.
As creepy as the massage looks, after starting an unneccessary war where tens of thousands were killed, I can’t make myself care about this shit. It’s like castigating Charles Manson for wearing white after labor day.
He had to invade her personal space because Karl Rove said there were weapons of mass destruction in there.
Agreed - I think I’m in a fairly informal office setting, but I’ve never thought “Gee, I really should touch Susan.”
Let alone if Susan were a world leader at a very public and important summit meeting in front of other world leaders and a shitload of cameras.
It’s not “a backrub”. It’s a non-sexual gesture of familiarity. Straight guys do it to other straight guys all the time. I really do think this is Bish, in his unorthodox way, of complimenting her for making it into the boys’ club. Now, if he had given her a little pat on the fanny, that might be a different story!
Hentor, Have you found these pics or the video anywhere else? I’ve looked on news photo sites and can’t find a thing.
Well, I think it’s more like criticizing Manson for cutting a swastika into his forehead. No, it’s not nearly as bad as his worst stuff, but it’s another sign that something ain’t right with the man.
And noting something like this certainly doesn’t preclude making other more damning observations. But I do agree that there is a certain level of stuff that is sadly passe for Bush that would be fairly remarkable for other world leaders, which is akin to what I was trying to say with the introductory paragraphs to the OP.
Wow, i hadn’t seen the massage before this thread. That is some fucked up shit.
As i said in another thread recently, while some of his comments at the G8 were bad, i thought his behaviour earlier in the week at the joint press conference with the German Chancellor was worse. His constant harping on about having a pig for dinner, even in the face of serious questions about the dramatic developments in the Middle east, was pitiful.
Hereis a story about it, and if you want to see some video, you can go to the Daily Show website and click on the video entitled “Slicing the Pig.”
I know, I know. I was kidding. I sit right with you.
I don’t think that I feel a profoundly deep level of disgrace when it comes to Bush the Younger, but it’s more like exasperation. It’s along the lines of feeling guilty when someone from another country points and laughs at me just because I’m a U.S. dwelling American, even though I haven’t done much to be worthy of scorn personally. I feel the same thing when I see any of the millions of rants against people who drive SUV’s when they assume there is NO reason. I don’t really give a fuck what those people think because they’re usually too busy patting themselves on the back for their ideals, but there’s still that little twinge of defensiveness.
While I agree that this is a common “one of the guys” gesture, not a grope, not a back rub, it is something I simply can’t imagine a man doing to a woman in my workplace (large banking services company). Doing it to her, in that setting, is so far outside of the bounds of what I understand as appropriate behavior that it stuns me.
“Yeah. I’m a problem. I kill babies and trees with my GIANT JEEP OF DOOM. What the fuck ever.”
“My president is a dumbass. I know. I can’t do anything about it now. Move on.”
That last bit was supposed to be at the end of the post. Right wing conspiracy?
Hmmmm!

Something of a hijack but speaks to the frat boy stories
[idle gossip] A friend of mine (English) regaled me with stories of the Bush administration when he was governor. Including George and much of the senate repairing to the local titty bar. And including him (my friend, not a citizen let alone elected) going back and casting ballots on the senate floor when everyone else was to drunk to make it back. Just something of the milieu he came out of. [/idle gossip]
Don’t ask for a cite. Not meant to be a serious accusation. All I can say is I belived him.
