Bust these rhymes !

The idea for this thread came to me in a dream last night! Identify the artist and song each of these, er, interesting rhyme pairs comes from.

The rules are:
[ul][li] supply only enough of the rhyme to make it distinctive[/li][li] same number of syllables in each half of the pair[/li][li] must be faily easily identifiable - no love/dove entries[/li][li] do not have to be exact - attempted/near rhymes are OK[/li][li] source should not be too obscure[/li][li] the more strained the rhyme the better, but[/li][li] no Tom Lehrer - too easy[/li][/ul]

These are from fairly classic rock tunes:

[ol]
[li] forlorn/the storm[/li][li] sparrow/marrow[/li][li] Caribbean/human bein’[/li][li] Chairman Mao/anyhow[/li][li] wire/choir[/li][li] language/sandwich[/li][li] English way/more to say[/li][/ol]
Once all are identified one of the successful answerers can start a new set.

Rats! When I read the title the first thing I thought of was Tom Lehrer’s ** Folk Song Army**.

Storm/Forlorn – Bob Dylan ** Shelter from the Storm**
Chairman Mao/Anyhow – Beatles (Lennon/McCartney) ** Revolution**

Some of the others seem familiar, but I’ll need more time to think about them.

However, #7 is Pink Floyd’s Time.

#6 - Land Down Under, Men At Work

Be back with a rhyme.

Turns out it didn’t take me too long to realise that #6 is Men At Work’s Land Down Under.

Hey Anastasaeon! You cheated! Don’t cheat, you dirty cheater!

  1. Lament/Spent

2 is from CSN&Y’s “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes”

  1. island/darling

#4. The Beatles, Revolution.

waist/face
AK/day

“Walk on the Wild Side,” Lou Reed
From the least strained rhymes file:
F1) masses/masses

De Saussure/Not So sure
making me blue/Pantone 292
Gently/Bentley
jellyfish/tell you this
no closure/bulldozer
savages/cabbages/ravages
villages/pillages/religious

I could go on all day.

Ice Cube - It Was A Good Day

“Today I didn’t even have to use my AK/ I got to say it was a good day”

if you reverse the words, The Ataris’ “Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Start” also counts, since it quotes the Cube track:

“OK, today was a good day/ I didn’t even have to use my AK”

Sir Mix-A-Lot - Baby Got Back

“when a girl walks in with an itty-bitty waist and a round thing in your face”

My Offerings:

Their Hinges/Oranges (hint: it’s an internal rhyme)

Jamrock/Damn block (this one’s difficult)

Marshes/Arches

The Magnetic Fields’ “The Ballad of Ferdinand De Saussure” (unless it was “The Lament…” or “The Sad Tale…” or a similar title.)

“The Death of…” and one of the most brilliant couplets in pop music history.

“Well/hell/tell”… all three rhymes are within one line of the song.

Did anyone ever ID this one? It’s from “Bird on a Wire” by Leonard Cohen.

All correct so far - well done - except no-one’s got #3 ( Caribbean/human bein’) yet.

“blue/Pantone 292” is another Magnetic Fields song–“Reno Dakota”

how about:
cute/moot

“Jessie’s Girl,” Rick Springfield

F2) acrobatic/Instamatic
