Butt-Hurt Trump Takes to Twitter Again (Part 1)

Well, that’s a given.

Right, that is what I was trying to say.

Maybe they should hire a human being who sounds like Trump to make those calls.

Seriously, could Alec Baldwin playing Trump have done any worse?

No human being can replicate the sounds of the Howling Yam.

Dude, get a grip.

Bo, better go throw something down the quarry, son, you’re reading things that are not there.

Which I understood quite well.

And I think I agree with jsc1953 (is 1953 your year of birth? It is mine also) in that in his own mind Trump said exactly the right thing with exactly the right words and the ‘evil’ Democratic rep is trying to make politics out of his noble act. I think that is what he believes happened. The ‘proof’ will ooze away from the story as he makes it about the Congresswoman and the Widow ‘wronging’ him.

IMHO as always. YMMV.

Did he screw up his condolence calls to the other three Green Berets’ families? Or just the black guy?

Could be another dog whistle for his Base.

If Trump’s remark had been well-intentioned, then why did he respond to the report of what he’d said with this?

If his remark had been well-intentioned, why not simply state what he’d actually meant, (with the “proof” he claims he has, to back that up), and then go on to say that he did honor Sergeant Johnson’s sacrifice and wanted to pay his respects to his widow…?

When someone goes on the attack the way Trump did, it’s much more difficult to sell the concept that they were well-intentioned.

I’ll add that “he knew what he signed up for” is a fairly common idiom. In general use, it indicates a certain degree of callousness. It’s not an expression of empathy or of sympathy. It’s more of a ‘don’t bother me with this’ sort of statement.

One of Trump’s most consistently-displayed qualities is his ever-present alertness to the possibility that he might be blamed for something. My belief is that in this phone call, Trump’s major concern was that the widow know that none of these deaths were “on” Trump. Hence the “he knew what he signed up for” remark.

One site is claiming that Trump offered $25,000 to the family of one soldier whom he called to offer condolences to (but then never followed up), but I can only find that one site that’s saying it, so I’m not sure just how true it is.

That’s fair, and I don’t want to get sucked into trying to defend the indefensible. Trump did respond to criticism, as he so often does, by attacking. That is indeed another demonstration of why he is totally unfit for the office he holds.

Trump is of course a pathological, habitual liar who is hypersensitive to criticism and instinctively attacks whenever he feels threatened, but I suspect that sometimes he may also just flat out not remember exactly what he said— even recently— because of cognitive decline and/or zero interest in, or attention paid to, what he’s saying at the time. Because he can’t clarify statements that he doesn’t remember making, he reflexively denies instead, hoping to divorce himself from any consequences and keep the plates spinning in the shambles of his mind.

He’s a startled kid stammering that he didn’t take a cookie, it’s not his hand in the jar, and the brown streaks on his lips aren’t chocolate, when we all know only the latter deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Apparently now the check has been sent( and it takes 4 months due to process, etc).

Yeah, Trump never sends a check until it’s publicly pointed out that no promised check has been sent.

He didn’t pay the family of the little brainwashed girls that sang for him during campaign.

Vlad’s in town?

But anyway: amazing that so many, online as in the “liberal” media, have been working so hard to try to interpret the ‘he knew what he signed up for’* remark as maybe-possibly-could-be some sort of sincere attempt at a compliment to the fallen Sergeant Johnson. Even after all we’ve experienced, an astonishing number of people on the left are still trying to give this guy the benefit of the doubt.

Nice of them, certainly. Very kind and charitable and nice.

But it was clearly (to me, anyway) Trump’s way of saying “hey, lady, don’t blame ME for your husband’s death.” Because he’s all about the escaping responsibility. That’s his brand.

*Note that the White House has not disputed the wording, or at least has declined to state what Trump supposedly said that differs from the version reported by three people who heard the speaker-phone call.

The check is in the mail.

Heh, yeah, right. If it arrives, what do ya wanna bet he “forgot” to sign it.

I wonder if he ever sent that “million dollars” to the (hurricane) Harvey victims?

At minimum? There’s the Department of Finding his Checkbook, a meeting with the Joint Chiefs of Looking for a Pen, and buy-in from President’s Special Committee for Bullshit We Got Called On…

Yes, as you could have checked yourself in a couple of minutes of googling.
