I’m more optimistic that we can realign around normal and abnormal. But, I’ve been wrong before.
The condition is irreversible, except through the collective experience of consequences. On some level, people realize that something is rotten, but they haven’t found the source of the problem and don’t know whom to hold accountable. We’re a skilled society but not an educated one. We’ve outsourced civic responsibility and don’t understand the Democratic value system we inherited. We’re simply overwhelmed by perceived complexities of rapid technological, economic, cultural, and political change which threatens integrity of the foundations of socioeconomic and sociopolitical power enjoyed by the ethnic majority. When those foundations are threatened, people don’t respond to messages of justice; rather, they’re moved by simple, easy-to-process messages which reassure them of their birthright at the top of the hierarchy, regardless of whether they as individuals will reap any of the real benefits of such status.
A Twitter employee deleted Trump’s twitter account today, on his last day on the job. Then it got restored. Rats.
Which came first? The last day or the deletion?
From what I understand, he was planning on leaving anyway.
Could Twitter just hire a new person every day, whose sole job would be to delete Trump’s account and then quit? Would solve a lot of problems.
Damn. I read that as Trump’s last day on the job.
I had to pull some tiny shred of hope from the shit pile I was witnessing. It’s gone now.
Maybe the next person will be better at it. Sure a few servers and backups servers, on multiple continents, will have to be re-written. It’s for the greater good. In fact, I’m willing to let Twiiter itself shut down if necessary. Where would he go next? Instagram? Tumblr?
What I don’t get is: aren’t trump supporters sometimes at least a little embarrassed by him? I get that they only watch fox and breitbart and think all the rest of the world’s media is fake news, but even those outfits have to sometimes actually quote the president. When they’re watching him say this:
"[Regarding Deng Xiaoping] People say we have the best relationship of any president-president, because he’s called president also. Now some people might call him the king of China. But he’s called president. "
Don’t some of them :smack:
Donald Trump is a stupid person’s idea of what a smart person sounds like.
I can’t believe people are cheering on this idiot. Have they no conception just how dangerous it is that a low-ranked Twitter employee can delete accounts and presumably publish fake tweets on them too? The lack of security at Twitter should deeply worry all those who use it however much they hate Trump. If their account is deleted by a disgruntled employee with a grudge against them one day perhaps they’d think twice about this.
Twitter was never designed to be a secure means of communications. It’s an internet toy, nothing more.
So? I’ll just make a new one, assuming contacting Twitter doesn’t work.
It sure as hell shouldn’t be the main communication venue for the President of the United States.
Some security measures are logging.
The person who did it was quickly identified, probably because of logging.
On every system, someones somewhere need to have a great deal of access and control.
These folks are kept in check via logging.
In cyber security, just like regular security, it’s very, very hard to prevent attacks from someone who is willing to take the bullet without removing a great deal of the usability and access.
We can keep suicide bombers from reaching various targets by setting up checkpoints and concrete barriers.
This means that traveling that last kilometer takes as long as traveling the first 50 kilometers.
Security is balanced with usability.
The account was unavailable for a very short period of time.
There was no harm done other than that short time span.
Several minutes of an account interruption seems like a reasonable thing to risk.
ymmv
Just yesterday, I heard an American Trump supporter excuse every asinine comment made by Trump: “You have to realize Trump’s not a politician so he doesn’t always say the right thing”.
NO, you moron! The guy never says the right thing.
I can’t believe people like you celebrated Trump becoming president. Have you no conception of how divisive and even dangerous that idiot is in that office?
It’s also the favorite toy of aldiboronti’s hero.
Maybe the fucking President of the United States should not use such an insecure and unofficial medium to make policy statements. Just a thought.
Deleted is less of an issue than starting an international incident by falsely posting about nukes flying or something on Trump’s account.
No, because they view Trump as a force that’s inflicting damage upon the coastal, global elites and that it won’t have an impact on them. Now that could all change once he destroys things like NAFTA and they end up paying 3 or 4 times the price they now pay for vegetables, or when farmers can’t sell their goods to Canada. But it’ll be too late then. And when it’s too late, you can’t just change it back - that’s the part people don’t yet understand. But they will. We all will.
