It’s even more terrible, to his feeble intellect, that we expect the President to act presidential, while not holding people who are not the President to the same standard.
ETA: I see that Fiveyearlurker noted that earlier too.

“Presidential” is a higher bar to clear. He’s not even making it past “petulant toddler”, let alone as far as “responsible adult”.
You know, I used to like conspiracy theories - blaming shit on hidden political operative phantoms and aliens and secret cabals that manipulate the world powers and, being a fan of the *Illuminati *books, I did my earnest duty to spread such rumors. Nowadays, Trump and his supporters supporters believe such theories, albeit much stupider and less subtle versions, and turn out to have the most voting powers, and therefore shaped our country to become the self-destructive morass of misplaced hate with enough mass shootings and pipe bombs to make Charles Manson and Ted Kozinsky look like rank amateurs.
The terrorists don’t have to do anything. We have met the enemy and he is us.
During the press conference, Director Wray said that late last night the FBI was working on confirming the DNA evidence with authorities in Florida.
I wonder if Trump was briefed last night and that kept him up and tweeting at 3AM?
It’s ironic that as a government contractor, I’m held to a higher standard of scrutiny than our president. Can you imagine trying to get a security clearance if you’d done half the shit he’s done?
The 9/11 dudes were so much more successful than their wildest dreams. First, I really don’t think they expected the towers to fall. Massive fire etc yeah, but actually fall down into rubble?; whoa, high fives and success all around! And since then; the USA has fallen into line way past their wildest dreams. They really couldn’t have possibly predicted the shit show the US government has foisted upon it’s citizens. Too bad they don’t drink, 'cause they really should be toasting themselves.
Sad.
This ^
The fact is, America has essentially voluntarily become an authoritarian state, and it has democratically elected a shit show.
Consider this: the Taliban is about to win the war in Afghanistan. The US had amassed a robust coalition, but fucking squandered it on Freedom Fries jingoism and a fraudulent invasion of Iraq. And we just turn the goddamn page. That’s what Americans do now: Trump has outrage after outrage and we just turn the page.
As long as some middle-American shit kicker has money in his bank account, God Bless Trump.
In short…I was right.
My pessimism. My Chicken Littlelism.
I was right.
We’re fucked.
And everyone here knows it. They just can’t bring themselves to admit that Chicken Little was right.
But folks, we’re going to swim in a pool of shit before we get out of this.
People ask me, what are you doing?
I ask you: what are you going to do? What are you going to do when votes are purged? What are you going to do when you know that progressives should have won the election but didn’t because voters were purged and votes were suppressed? Don’t ask me what I’m going to do, ask yourselves what you’re going to do when you realize that canvassing doesn’t work anymore - when you realize that no matter how hard you try to get out the vote, that it doesn’t matter because our de facto authoritarianism has rigged democracy so that your vote and your activism doesn’t matter anymore. I ask the optimists: what are you going to do?
I think they did. That awful morning after studying the situation a bit, I predicted the buildings would fall, with the mental reservation assuming the steel is not protected a lot better than I’d expect. I was expecting more of the upper section dropping, then falling sideways than the straight-down collapse, though.
In the words of a great man: “Therefore, Bush did 9/11 (…(…)====)~~~~”
There’s a lot of bad shit going down. You could make the world slightly better by not turning discussion of every event into a referendum on how right you are.
You seem to be under the mistaken impression that people don’t understand how bad things are, just because we don’t come here and scream about it at every opportunity.
Listen, asswipe.
I’ve been ridiculed, shouted down, told not to post just because I had the audacity to talk about how bad things were going and because people didn’t want their little safe space perceptions of what’s happening in this country crushed to pieces. I wasn’t the one who threads telling other posters to shut the fuck up, but I had two or three started about me - and now - as everyone can see - my alarmism was right, and they were wrong. All of you can fuck right off because now you’re seeing it. I’ve tried to tell you fucking people.
We’re just getting started. So since I’ve had three or four posters consistently telling me to shut the fuck up, now it’s my turn - and now the facts support me: I FUCKING TOLD YOU PEOPLE! YOU SHOULD SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!
Yup. Like most baseball caps in the world, mind you.
I remember seeing that mentioned already in articles from the election, but here’s a more recent one which mentions it.
I work in short-term projects, usually on location. Currently in France, French and immigrant-from-French-ex-colony coworkers. One of the French guys and I often are the only ones at the office; on Thursday (that’s the 25th) he informed me that Trump is great, Hillary a convict who wears one of those police electronic cuffs, and the bombs are a false flag operation. Oh, and one of our immigrant coworkers should never have left whatever dump he came from but the other one (who’s one of the most efficient people I’ve had the pleasure to work with) “is ok”. He kept getting increasingly upset that I was up to date in the Midterms, that my initial response to his wisdom had been negative and that eventually what I did was shut up and give clear signals that he needs a long-sleeved shirt (I’ve got a glass face and then some, worst poker player in history). He ended up having a tachycardia attack which he blamed on the lettuce and I ended up deciding that I’d rather eat at McD for a year…
It’s been a while since I revisited the fable. Is the pushback against Chicken Little because the sky isn’t actually falling, or because we want him to stop his goddamned shrieking for five fucking minutes so at least we can all die in peace?
Nah, the pushback is because we want to pretend that the sky isn’t falling for five more minutes, and he keeps reminding us that we don’t have five minutes.
We don’t want to die in peace, we want to die ignorant of the contribution of our own failures and flaws.
Oh. Yeah, I’m actually not in that group.
Which one from today do you want to make you feel like asahi is a voice of reason (gods help us all)?
Then above where he gives credit to a felon for having interesting ideas or this one:
Where he attacks one of the people who received a bomb from one of his fanboys? I will be joining the chorus of telling people to shut the fuck up about civility as long as the president continues to attack victims and incite more violence. If I had to choose between getting some indigestion from someone interrupting my meal or DYING, I think I can buy some fucking rolaids.
I’ll throw this lying liar in for good measure:
Her actual words were in regards to climate change: “We owe the American people to be there for them, for their financial security, respecting the dignity and worth of every person in our country, and if there is some collateral damage for some others who do not share our view, well, so be it, but it shouldn’t be our original purpose,” Pelosi said.
Wanna talk to me again about who is lying to stir up violence?
The right is struggling to support their “both sides do it” narrative, as witness Cornyn’s ham-fisted attempt to paint Pelosi as an advocate of violence. Cornyn’s tweet, linked above, said
…which, as you noted, is not at all what Pelosi said.
Similarly, many on the right are claiming that several acts of right-wing terrorism by overt Trump fans (as well as by those such as the Pittsburgh terrorist who are on the Trump side but feel he doesn’t go far enough), are balanced exactly and precisely by the shooting of Steve Scalise at the GOP baseball practice. Because the shooter was a Bernie Sanders supporter, you see…but of course Sanders has no record of applauding violence.
Trump, on the other hand, has quite a record of praising violence against his opponents (and those he’s defined as his opponents: the free press). He’s offered to pay the legal fees of supporters who will commit violence in his name. He’s expressed admiration for extrajudicial killings. He’s spread lies about opponents and about entire demographic groups, as a means of riling up his supporters against those opponents and groups.
There is no comparison between Trump’s actions and the actions of anyone on the left, when it comes to encouraging and supporting terrorism and violence.
And so the right is flailing. They’re making stuff up (as usual). Their followers may swallow it—but will the mass of independents? Will enough of them feel alarmed by this new shoot-em-up reality, to reject Trumpism and those politicians who espouse it?
shrug
I’ve just noticed that half the time your posts are just you ranting about yourself. I don’t even necessarily disagree with your position most of the time. It’s just that your contributions stand out more and more as being about a battle for points than about what’s actually going on. There’s nothing noble or particularly useful about, as k9bfriender says, making sure the doomed (whatever that might mean precisely) know exactly how guilty they are.
Bottom line is that other people seem fully capable and willing to see and talk about the bleak state of affairs without needing to make it about themselves.
The last thing I have capacity for on a day when I’m dealing with my own and my family’s emotions around having members of our extended community shot dead in their place of worship is putting up with your need to be validated, and I resent that you ask for that personal validation.
If the world is as bad as you believe, I might suggest that it’d be humane to stop sucking energy from traumatized people to feed your own ego.
