Because he doesn’t understand what Senate confirmation is, and thinks this point is some kind of gotcha.
Trump is a giant fucking idiot, but he’s clearly talking about Mueller being Senate confirmed as a special counsel. I don’t know why people think that’s some big faux pas. Being confirmed as FBI director is irrelevant. Whitaker was also confirmed by the Senate for his role as US attorney in Iowa.
Regardless, the special counsel isn’t subject to Senate confirmation, so who cares that he wasn’t confirmed to a position that doesn’t require confirmation?

At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if he claims that global warming has been fixed because he ordered the Earth to stop heating up.
Checking my notes, I see that gas is below 2/gallon here in San Antonio, a .60 decline over the past couple of months.
$3.19 is the cheapest you’ll find it in my neck of the woods. Maybe Trump decreed that we’d have higher gas prices as punishment for not voting for him.
