So, except for this chance circumstance, none of this shit, whatever it supposedly represents, would have been signed for another two weeks or so until Pres. VSG got back from his holiday golfing vacation? Sounds like the Dems did us all a favor. Way to cut through governmental red tape!

I can’t figure out why everyone is framing this as a showdown between Trump and Democrats. Republicans still have a majority in both houses of Congress.

Technically, kinda sorta. To get through the Senate, any legislation needs 60 votes to get past a filibuster. So nothing can pass without 9 Democrats on board.
Of course Trump told Schumer last week that if there’s a shutdown, he (Trump) would gladly own it and wouldn’t blame Schumer at all. But that was then, this is now.
