I didn’t even begin to say that no blue states produced any agricultural products. In fact, I specifically didn’t say fruits or vegetables because California produces mightily in that category.
Good luck getting enough meat, dairy or grain without red states.
Wheat was the major crop planted in the 19th century. By the 1950’s, the state’s wheat output exceeded local consumption. While in recent years wheat production has declined, wheat continues to be an important rotational crop for many growers in California.
California wheat growers annually produce an average of about 1.1 million tons (998,000 t) of common wheat (mostly fall-sown hard spring wheat but also lesser amounts of other wheat classes) and 250,000 tons (227,000 t) of Desert Durum wheat. A large proportion of California’s hard red wheat is used for milling into bread flour or general purpose flour. Varying amounts are sold for feed, depending on price, supply, demand, and grain quality. California wheat is sold both in domestic and foreign markets.
Given that a lot of red states will be flipping this time, I don’t think that will be a problem. In any case, five of the top seven dairy producing states are blue (or will be).
I’d imagine NZ would also be quite happy for dairy, beef and lamb should the red states disappear from the earth - and we’re also really nice people, with legal gay marriage, a female prime minister, no Corona Virus and our current ongoing elections feature two very civil ladies at the top of the ticket
All the benefit that a New Yorker gets out of Kansas is no more than what he might get out of Saskatchewan, the Argentine pampas, of Siberia. But New York to a Kansan is not only a place where he may get drunk, look at dirty shows and buy bogus antiques; it is also a place where he may enforce his dunghill ideas upon his betters.

Idle and not remotely serious musing: If red states are going to cut off blue states from their agricultural products, blue states can presumably cut off red states from their cultural products. Goodbye to the majority of films and television shows and a healthy chunk of the music industry. Imagine that the sort of material you currently get on AM radio when driving across the Great Plains is all the media you get from now on. Have fun with that.
And of course the blue states can import food. What are the red states going to do - import foreign films?
Actually, California produces something like 40% of the fruit, vegetables, and nuts on US tables, including Red State tables. As also noted, you are indeed and “ignorant red stater” to not know that Blue States also produce agricultural products
Strictly speaking, none of those are essential to human life or diets, especially the meat and dairy. In fact, most human adults can’t properly digest dairy, it’s a myth that it is somehow required past weaning age.
As for grain - lots of places grow grain, including both Canada and Mexico. California has the biggest ports for international trade. It would, at worst, be annoying.
The Red States need the Blue States more than vice-versa.
The blue states, in addition to subsidizing the red states through taxes, also are the place where what little the red states actually earn sell their products.
If the red states choose to not sell their products to those who are able to purchase them, then they will just become even more impoverished.
Definitely a bit of cutting off your own nose to spite your face attitude you got there.
Yeah, that was the strangest response. “If you stop subsidizing our product and paying us not to grow stuff, maybe we’ll stop selling you the product.” I wonder who they think they would sell to? Meanwhile, many of the blue states continue to pay more then they receive to the poor red states, and continue to vote for people to raise our taxes. Weird. I think I read that Trump has already sent $46 billion to midwestern farmers hurt by his trade war this year.
