Howdy Y’all! Home from the big celebration and doin’s over to the church house. ‘Twas fun and we had a hyuuuuuuuuuuuge crowd on hand. Well, over two hunnert which for us is huge. There was plenty of food so no one went away hungry except if’n they wanted to do so. A good time was had by all. I took a bunch of pics with my phone and posted them on the church book of faces group with amusin’ (hey, I was entertained!) captions.
One thing happened this afternoon I had not expected. There was a funeral (not the unexpected thing) in the church proper at two p.m. A simple Funeral Rite for someone who was a member long ago and wanted to be buried from St. Patrick’s. I was in the kitchen slicin’ up N.O.T. for the feast when EYP came in and said a Crucifer was needed for the service and asked me if I would do that. So, I vested and became crucifer at a service for someone I did not know. This is, of course, one of those things that one just does not say no to doin’ unless one is physically incapable of doin’ so.
swampie, my dad was once a pallbearer for a woman at his church who had only one blood relative surviving, and that person, a nephew, was not able to get to the funeral on time. This woman died here in Topeka, Kansas, on September 10, 2001, and her nephew was in New York. Planes were shut down and he could not get here. Dad did not know he had, years before, been listed by this lady as a pallbearer, but he accepted the task.
We had a group of us for a while from several area churches we called the “PBA” like in Professional Bowlers but in our case it was pall-bearers. If a local pastor or funeral home knew someone was basically being buried alone or with just a couple older relatives we would come in and fill the need gratis. Our feeling was that it fit the need to do “for the least of my brothers” and gave a better feel than just having funeral staff do it. I still think the core group is active; I may just have to reach out a day and see.
Well, my St. Patrick’s day isn’t going as planned.
I went to Nolensville for the first CL purchase and headed down the road to the second. I was in the left lane of the state highway to turn onto her road and had just begun the turn when SMACK! I got hit by a dump truck passing me on the left from behind on a double yellow line with a wide open lane on the right.
He didn’t even stop. He got down the road a bit, still in sight and stopped for a nano second until someone else stopped to see if I was OK, then booked. The volunteer fire and rescue got there before any LEOs. They gave me a once over and checked Nelson out (yeah, he was with me…again), took bunches of pics (they texted them to me for insurance and included the skid marks from the truck), swept up, directed traffic and got my car out of the road way. What a great bunch of volunteers! Before the LEOs got there, I saw the truck come back through the other way, but nobody could catch a picture of him before he left the scene again.
The county sheriff (this was rural) and the THP got there and finished up the paperwork, called a tow truck and waited until they got there. My SIL came and got me. A rental car will be delivered tomorrow, insurance told me that there’s a good chance that this falls under uninsured motorist coverage, so likely no deductable. That mother!@#er didn’t even let me get to the second oil change! I got the impression that LEO had a good idea who it was. The sheriff told me that the guy was probable unlicensed and uninsured.
I don’t thing there’s any unrepairable damage (crosses appendages), but it still pissed me off.
kopek, the following link is from the local Catholic high school, about the St. Joseph of Arimathea Society. there was also an article about them in the paper, and one can find mention of the society elsewhere on the Net.
missred, I am so sorry I did not read your post before. Good to see that you and Nelson will be okay. If there is a bright spot it is that all those folks helped you out and did not cause any more problems. Let us know how you are later, sometimes you do not feel aches or pains until you have slept on them and they stiffen up.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 48 Amurrkin out and cloudy (well, dark) with a predicted high of 67 and mostly cloudy for the day. I shall deheathenate with the Luteruns this mornin’ as I am the designated non-cannibal kind of Lector for the first lesson. Yes, I know it’s St. Patrick’s Day. This bein’ Lent, the regular mornin’ Whiskypalian service is what follows for the Second Sunday in Lent. At six this evenin’ we will have Evening Prayer and do the St. Patrick thing. After that, the CDI (remember that leadership thing I got involved in doin’) team will have dinner and discuss what we shall be takin’ with us to the next meetin’, which is this comin’ Firday and Sattidy. Also, nappage shall occur this afternoon. N.O.L. shall be corned beast, cabbage, and carrots 'n N.O.T. we brought home last night.
{{{[color=red]red[color]}}} dang! Glad you and Nelson are OK. Hope they catch that idiot. Like CupCakes said, let us know how you’re doin’ today. Here’s hopin’ the damage to the wheels is an easy fix.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, purtification for deheathenization must commence.
It’s a chilly 37 degrees outside, but the sun is shining and is supposed to warm up to 50.
I’m glad you and Nelson are okay Red.
My irritation for yesterday was that a bunch of pokemon go assholes congregated in the dog park parking lot, forcing all of us in the dog park to have to park cross the street by the playground and basketball courts. I heard it was worse last year when the assholes actually came into the park, left the gates open, and started yelling at people to get their dogs away from them. I’m calling the city tomorrow and asking if they can put up a sign that says dog park parking only. One other day I went there and there was only one parking spot and I was the only person there.
Doing some laundry this morning.
My son put my new computer cart together yesterday, the old one was so wobbly that I was afraid it was going to collapse any minute. I like that the new one is smaller, but it is also taller and can’t be adjusted to be any shorter. It will take some getting used to.
Woke up at 6:30 from a dream that I never figured out what was going on in, saw the time and drifted back off–to dream abut a 747 jet crashing straight down on top of me. Figured I was out of luck for sleeping and got up.
Red, glad it wasn’t more serious than it was, happy that you and Louie are fine and hope that your insurance does what you pay it for.
Sari, I thought Pokemon Go was so last year? But yeah, irritating B******es of any mania can bed a pain. Need to get some big dogs that like to play out there.
Been a pall-bearer for family before, but never ad hoc, not being a church-going type. However, if this heathen is ever asked, I would do it. But swampy and ruble, good on ya for stepping up when you were needed.
Still a bit achy from yesterday, will probably take it easy today.
Thank you all for the well wishes. The only place that I’m even a little sore is my left arm and that was from standing around holding Nelson for the better part of the afternoon. Today and tomorrow will be spent making the arrangements for a car, to get my car towed to the dealership and contacting the adjuster. Well, that and the usual Sunday chores. I haven’t been in this many accidents so close together since I owned the grey S10 (it was truly a cursed vehicle as far as accidents. Although it was hit numerous times, I was never at fault for the accidents and actually collected insurance from the other guys most of the time).
swampy, you were a good one to help with the funeral service. A friend of mine who worked weekends where I do used to volunteer as pall bearer / color guard for military services through the local American Legion and VFW (he was a Navy vet). Given that he was free during the week, young and healthy enough to do it, he did.
Dang Red. Glad you and Nelson are OK. Sucks that happened and I hope the idiot driver is caught soon and got off the road. This could have been much worse.
Awake, showered and fed. I have general household chores to do today to get ready to go back to irk tomorrow-oh joy. Happy Saint Patricks Day.
That was a fun workout… I’ve been wanting to move the remaining bags of pellets from the end of the garage to the corner by the door. I moved literally a ton, plus some. I expect my back will not be happy tomorrow. But there’s now room to move in the garage, so Huzzah!!
Howdy Y’all! Deheathenization, N.O.L., and nappage have occurred. I feel like I’ve put in a full day. Evenin’ Prayer and dinner are the next things up on today’s list.
And, since it is St. Patrick’s Day…
**
ERIN GO BRAGH!!!**
Reminds me of the punchline to an old joke - something about a kid looking under his bed and saying either someone was coming or going under there… It was funny at the time.
I just finished tapping a bunch of holes in one of the plates **FCD **is manufacturing. As soon as daughter is done with the second one, I’ll tap those holes. It’s a messy job since you need to use penetrating oil on the taps. My hands are going to smell like the oil for a month!!!
