I’ve been wanting to buy the DVD Best in Show for about 3 months now. Wait, even longer. I wanted it the moment I saw it - 6 or 8 months ago. I’ve been wanting this DVD for a looooong time. I’ve also wanted the new Red Hot Chili Peppers CD for a month or so now.
Neither of these desires were actually big enough to ever get me off my ass to go to the store and buy the damn things. It wasn’t even enough to remember to look for 'em while I was at Target or Shopko buying toilet paper, spare pens, and doggie treats. I never sat at my computer and pined away, wishing they were here.
Until now.
I ordered 'em last week from Playcentric.com. Suddenly, my life turns around whether or not they’ll be here TODAY. Is that the UPS truck I hear out there? Did the mail come yet? Are my CDs here yet? I neeeeeeeeed them!
Why is this? Why was I perfectly fine except for the occasional “boy, I should buy Best in Show” thought up until last Friday, when I actually bought it? Now I can’t wait for it to show up. Is there a name for this disorder? Why can’t they make overnight shipping cheaper?
I know what you mean. It’s like when you order a new computer or monitor and suddenly, the moment you click on the “OK” button to complete the order, the old one is simply UNBEARABLE.
I like the wait, personally. In fact, the anticipation is almost always better than the having, at least for me. Not that I’d be happy if they took longer than they absolutely had to either…I have no idea what I’d do back in the days of “Allow 6 to 8 weeks for delivery.” Probably go insane.
I guess I factor in that week or so before things arrive as part of the experience. Then, when that’s over and I’ve seen the movie/listened to the music/made my new monkey butler wash my dishes…it’s time to do it all over again with something else.
Yeah, me too. I love the wait so much (including going to the UPS website six times a day to find out just how FAR the package has come) that I try to keep something in the pipeline at all times.
Nothing huge or expensive…a book here, a CD or video there, a 1965 VINTAGE CONN CORNET FROM E-BAY…
Yeah I’m the same way. I want something but always forget to look for it when I’m out. Then I get on the web and remember I want it so… Recently I ordered a couple CDs from amazon.com and took the cheapest delivery option. Started getting all excited and a couple days later they email me to say the shipment will be delayed. I said to hell with that and cancelled the order and went to the local Target. CD’s were the same price (I guess Target’s partnering with Amazon?). I’m much happier now.
I order stuff then wait anxiously. When it doesn’t show in two or three days I forget about it (short attention span I guess). Three weeks later I’ll see something laying the front porch and go to investigate. Then its like Christmas “hey CDs!” (wonder how long these have been here).
