Here are the latest exit polls on CA-8. Tight, but very promising (though if you want to know the one thing tonight that African-Americans and Republicans have in common, it is dispiritedly this).
53/47 now for Yes with 24% in. Apparently SF and LA are not in yet so it will get tighter.
Not all of us have that in common with Republicans. I know you already knew that and were generalizing, but it just needed to be said.
Looks like Prop 2 passed easily in Florida. Just when I was about to be proud of you prejudiced mofos. Oh well, hopefully it won’t last too long.
The good news (but depressing in the long term) is that there is nothing stopping a 2010 proposition on the ballot to repeal Prop 102, so long as 15% of registered voters sign a petition. Since fewer voters vote in off-presidential year elections, it would be a lot easier to get another 2006-like result.
But that also means that if such a repeal passed, then in 2012, the exact same proposition could be on the ballot again.
What kind of sick sacks of shit would rather have kids growing up in orphanages than have their parents be gay?
I’d imagine those of the same mindset who want to make abortions illegal, but won’t be stepping up to take responsibility for the care and feeding of those unwanted kids themselves.
This is exactly how I feel.
As I’m watching the results come in, this is the hope I’m clinging to. If it passes tonight, maybe it won’t be forever.
This is the one thing that absolutely blows my mind. The CA Constitution can be changed via a simple majority? I’ve served on Parent Councils that had stricter requirements than that!
I don’t know how to go about making your 60% amendment a reality, but, in my mind, it’s absolutely something that needs to happen.
agreed. There are people who feel that being gay causes your children and anyone you come in contact with to be gay, like it’s a disease. There are people that think homosexuals are so morally replete as to not be worthy of raising children. Yet most of these people don’t lift a damn finger to help anyone themselves.

I do not believe time is on the side of the homophobes.
And Arkansas Initiative 1 (the ban on gay adoptions) shows the same demographic trend.
Yeah, but what about race? It seems like African-Americans and Latinos are going to break heavily in favor of 8, and I don’t see those demographics changing any time soon.
I think tonight I’m going to comfort myself with the thought that perhaps President Obama and the Democratic majority will at least make civil unions legal on the federal level so that the LDS Church is smacked down hard.
The fucker hasn’t budged in forever, or just whenever I happen to check…
Don’t loose hope for CA, Alameda is only reporting 34% of precincts and there are no results from San Francisco. Those two could easily tip the scale in the favor of justice. More than half the state hasn’t reported yet and the ones that have are small rural ones. Chins up, I predict it will go down in flames.
I hope so!!!
If it passes, do me and my spouse get our fucking $150 marriage license/ceremony/certificate/licensing fee back?:mad::mad:
I’ll believe in their sanctimonious marriages when divorce is 100% illegal, no exceptions, ever. And if it was, I’d still marry her.
Apparently, we want humane treatment for chickens here in CA but for teh gays, not so much.
Also not even close to done reporting:
Sonoma
Napa
Yolo
Humbolt
Contra Costa
Santa Clara
Montarey
Santa Barbara
Santa Cruz
Those plus San Francisco and Alameda make up more than half the population of the state and “No on Prop 8” is leading by significant margins in ALL OF THEM.
The thing to keep in mind is that, even if 8 passes, it’s going to be nothing more than a temporary blip in gay marriage for California. The only reason its doing so well right now is, ironically, because Obama has been so successful in getting so many people out to vote. If we lose tonight, we’ll be back in 2010, and without the pressure of a national election, and with two more years to shift the demographics, there’s no way for the anti-marriage faction to carry the day again. Small comfort for folks like jellyblue who are going to see their marriages vanish during the interregnum, but you will get it back. Whatever happens tonight, there’s simply no way we can lose this in the long run.
