CA child custody law

A good (divorced) friend of mine is trying to move her 11 year old child and herself out of state. Father opposes. How old does the child have to be before she can choose for herself?

All help appreciated, thanks in advance.

Try asking a lawyer.

Here is some stuff from the net:
" Under the new rule, the custodial parent generally has the right to decide where the children are to live, as long as he/she is not moving simply to deny the other parent access to the children."
