Cabin fever in the MMP

Happy Sunday!

The sun is shining and Lily is coming to visit.
A bit chilly in the low 40s.

Today is tax day. I need to get my son’s taxes done so he can get a stimulus check. He didn’t file last year, taxact said he had to, the irs said he didn’t, so he didn’t.
He’s studying for a major exam due today, so I’ll do the paperirk, he can do the signing. The only income he has it what little was left over from his grants and scholarships.
Shouldn’t be that hard.
May as well start on my own while I’m at it.
If you see a big patch of blue air over western maryland, don’t worry, it’s just me turning the air blue with all my cussin.
Although mine should be easier too because I won’t have to add all his school stuff to mine.

When I’m not cussin the taxes, I’ll be cussin the website for irk. It’s is still one fucked up mess. I’ve had to send in several repair tickets over the last few days, and haven’t gotten answers for most of them. I’ve not been using one section of it because it has caused me so much trouble. I guess I was not the only one because we got a message to remind us of it and how it can benefit us. Maybe it it worked?

Up, caffeinating, breakfasting, the beans for a pot of black bean chili are in the crock and once KP is done, sloth shall ensue.

Morning all. Have broken fast and rescued the newspaper from the driveway. 65F heading for 78F and, according to the weather site, “Abundant sunshine”. So will have to take my book and my new rocking chair outside for awhile I think.

Sari, good luck on the website; probably the IT folks are overwhelmed with people having problems with the POS system. And have fun with the taxes…Turbo Tax won’t help you?

FCM, saw the swingset on your Facebook page. Bet Roxy loves it.

hippy, normal routines are on hold; you’ll have to develop new or substitute routines for the duration.

Everybody have a good Sunday.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Gonna do some laundry today.

I had friend stew for dinner last night.

Didn’t go to Lowe’s - **FCD **was kinda freaking out about it, so I decided to make do with what I have here. And it’s working out well. I’ve got 3 pavers leveled for the tower - one more to go. **FCD **and I leveled the swingset, and the first side of the tower is attached to one end. I’m taking a little break before putting down the 4th paver.

If all goes well, Roxy will have her tower today, minus the lattice. I didn’t have anything that would substitute for it. But maybe I can get some during the week when it’s less likely to be crowded? We shall see.

Daughter just informed me that Roxy’s other grandmother has a fever. Needless to say, Roxy isn’t going there today. So, how long before the fever is one infectious?

Apparently, even people who don’t develop symptoms at all can be infectious, so I doubt the fever is a useful benchmark for contagiousness.

I wish we could get back to a normal routine, even though we don’t do much.

I ordered groceries last night, then said forget it when the earliest pick up date was sometime Firday.
We don’t need much, so I will run to the store tomorrow.

I wouldn’t worry about a fever. I’d stay away, but I wouldn’t be worried unless there were other symptoms.
MetalMouse, I am sure the IT people are busy. I had issues logging into irk this morning, but I found some irk arounds. PITA, but I figured something out.
I don’t even know if it is worth sending it in.
I’ll probably just get an email with a link to a video on how to use the new system. Which I will watch, and then figure out an irk-around, because no matter how many times I watch the videos, it doesn’t make the system irk like it is supposed to. Perhaps they should tell the system to watch the videos?

I’ll be using taxact, since that is what I use every year and I can just import the previous year’s info.
I’m not that fond of taxact, but it is there.

It’s not even noon yet, and it looks like late afternoon/early evening. Heavy clouds bucketing down rain, plus wind. Anyone who’s out in this who doesn’t absolutely HAVE to be is nuts.

Sorry, 502-induced duplicate.

502 induced?

I hadn’t thought it went through the first time due to a 502 error, so hit Submit again, generating a dupe.

Done for the day, and I’m exhausted and aching! But the tower is almost done. I need to make a little half wall section for the front, then I have to sew the canopy and install it. And I need to put 2 pieces of lattice around the bottom. Pics on FB, if you’re interested.

I had to go to Lowe’s, and it was interesting. **FCD **found a couple of masks in his shop, so I wore one. Lowe’s was limiting the number of people allowed inside, but I don’t think I was in line 10 minutes total. I had to get 3 different items, 6 pieces total, and all were in the same aisle. And I’d parked at the end of the store where the building materials are, so once I checked out, it was a quick trot across the parking lot to load the truck. All things considered, not a bad experience.

I’m starving, but I don’t know what I want to eat. I may just have an apple or 2. And a handful of tylenol…

The only time I left the house today was to hit the drive through of our favorite Tex-Mex place for lunch Enchiladas. I am no baker by any means, and I am a one trick pony when it comes to desserts but I just took a chocolate cake out of the oven from my grandmother’s recipe:

longhair75’s chocolate cake recipe:

2 ½ cups flour
2 cups sugar
½ cup hershey’s cocoa
2 rounded teaspoons baking soda
1 cup soured milk (add a teaspoon of white vinegar to whole milk and stir. Trust me)
1 cup vegetable oil
½ teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
1 cup hot water (add this last)

Combine all dry ingredients, then add the liquid ingredients. Pour into a 9x13 floured baking dish and bake in a pre heated 350 degree oven until a toothpick comes out dry, approximately 45 minutes.

metal mouse, I think we spent the afternoon the same way today.

Shortly before coming in, the neighbor across the fence with the new puppy came out. The puppy and Nelson sniffed noses and butts through chain link. :stuck_out_tongue: This morning, on our walk, we met a neighbor from the back part of the complex with his two shi tzuh / Yorkie mixes. They were sweet little dogs and much sniffing and tail wagging ensued.

The chili and cornbread for supper is just right. Some heat, but not so much that I’m breathing flames. A nice can of Tecate goes well with it.

missred

I love chili, cornbread and Mexican beer! a great combination

I didn’t get taxes done because it is nice outside and I went out there to sit.
My son is going to have to do them himself. When I was his age I had been married, divorced, and living on my own. I did my own taxes. My father offered to do them for me every year, but what I did with my money was none of his business.
He did the HFH’s taxes up until the day he died. In fact, he was doing her taxes when he died.
Then my uncle who worked for the irs did them for her.
I cannot imagine letting anybody in the family know my business that way.

Who am I kidding, I’ll end up doing them.

Had trouble logging in to irk again this evening.
It’s not me, it’s the system. Or maybe I’m not understanding how it irks, but something is messed up.

Spent about 2 hours outside reading (also drove out-and-back to pay my water bill, using the drop-off box there). Very few cars (well, I am on a cul-de-sac), but a lot of folks out walking and talking (but staying a 6-ft. distance from each other). Inside now and internettin’ after finishing dinner.

Binged-watched (from Amazon) a animated sci-fi show called Final Space. Hard for me to recommend it, I loved it but it’s definitely an acquired taste (imagine Monty Python co-authoring it with Quentin Tarantino, with help from Mr. Rogers…). Still, helped fill up the day.

Everyone take care and I’ll catch you on the next MMP.

Phooey. Was ready to go on a DIY mask, fabric cut, etc. Cannot find the cord for the sewing machine! My vision is not good enough to cope with hand-sewing, so until I can replace the cord or DH can help me locate another around the house that could work, I’m stymied.

I didn’t THINK I had hit submit twice. Stupid 50x errors.
