Nice birdies Dots; being stuck in isolation on the second floor, I’m spending an inordinate amount of time watching my neighbour’s feeder and wondering if I should try and tame a sparrow to brighten my up my cell, so you’re not the only one feeling like a massive cliche.
Having said that, I am out to Brave The Shops later, as I’m out of milk. According to google, Aldi’s much quieter after about 4, so I’ll go then. Until then I’m being a different sort of cliche by sitting in and baking sourdough bread, which is apparently the thing for millennials to do. I figure if it’s rotten, I can always buy bread later
It’s a lovely sunny day again, unfortunately, one of my neighbours has apparently got a karaoke setup, so leaving my windows open isn’t that inviting right now… twitch
The pups had a playdate this morning, it made them very happy.
They are still hyper though, an hour playdate doesn’t equal 2-3 hours at the park.
I was sitting outside all embarrassed because of having company and it smells outside. The farmers are fertilizing their fields. Then I remember that my friend lives two streets over and is closer to the farms than I am. She didn’t even notice the smell.
I have a lot of crap to do today, none of which I want to do.
Mrs. L.A. asked me to get some Dungeness crab one day. I called her to ask if she wanted me to pick up one, or two. She said two. They cost $60 at something like $13/pound. I estimated that for the meat, I was paying $30/pound. And we only ate one of them that night. Since then, I’ve only bought one crab for the two of us.
The crab I bought yesterday, from the same place (different location) was $8.99/pound. At 2.4 pounds, it cost $21.56. I don’t know the weight of the meat we got out of it.
Anyway, it’s expensive enough that it’s not a weekly thing; but when we want a live crab, they’re generally easy to get. It just seemed illicit with the stay-at-home orders.
Missions accomplished. I say missions because I remembered one other thing I needed to get was pool salt. So, I gave OYKW a choice of missions, Diet Poopsie or Pool Salt. He chose Diet Poopsie cause he did not want to go to Sam’s. It’s not that he’s afraid of Sam’s, but the urge to impulse buy is just too much for him and Sam’s is a place for impulse buys. Thus, I went to Sam’s (I am not as prone to impulse buys especially when I am on a mission like I was with the pool salt) and got the salt and he went to the Pik ‘n Sav (aka the pick-a-nick) for the Diet Poopsie which was on sale for a dollah per two liter. We now possess six forty pound bags of pool salt (price was reduced so I got six instead of three bags [that is not an impulse buy that is bein’ thrifty]), and twelve two liter Diet Poopsie’s. Go Us!
I am now in possession of that definitive old people’s item, a rocking chair. It’s still in my car because to justify going to the Cracker Barrel to buy it, I also bought dinner from them (Hamburger steak, fries, mac-n-cheese and biscuits for $9.79 + tip–great deal).
Neighbor was nice enough to edge my lawn (I’m lazy about it), so I need to sweep up here in a bit. Laundry is done and needs hanging, but need to finish lunch first.
75F outside. Any other year I’d be out coaching and/or refereeing youth soccer and trying to get rid of this belly. Rats.
Roxy has achieved swingset! It was a combined effort of the 4 adults in the household to complete the final assembly. She seems to like it. Pics on my FB page.
SIL requested pizza for supper, so I’ll place an order shortly. No cooking tonight - yay!
Since I liked the carrot onion soup last week, I decided to do a something similar with a slightly different palette. I cooked three sweet potatoes, sautéed some onions and garlic, added some ginger, cayenne and veggie broth, cooked it down and blended it. I served it with a dollop of Greek yogurt. Not bad, but before I put it in individual bowls for the fridge, I think I’ll add a little more cayenne. I’m eating it with tunafish on toasted rye flatbread.
We spent our Saturday getting the weeks groceries and picking up a couple of odds and ends at the fabric store. We stopped at a local burger place for a drive through lunch on the way home. I miss our usual routine. We would normally make the rounds of the estate sales and maybe get to the range for an hour or two then go out for a nice lunch. Grocery shopping was not near the chore it has become. I made some chili dogs for dinner and we are getting ready to continue our binge watch of Ozark on Netflicks.
metal mouse, funny- I was JUST TODAY looking at rocking chairs. One of my big issues is that I have very little strength in my feet and legs, so I was sort of wondering if that might be a gentle/possible way to sort of build that up a bit/get those muscles moving. It’s not much, but it could be something. My issue is that I’m not sure how difficult it would be to get back out of it. Maybe not too bad if the seat is high enough? I need one of those chairs that raises up and dumps you out. Now THERE’S an old person item. But there were decent-looking rocking chairs for like $20 on Facebook marketplace and if I can get one that’s comfortable enough to sit up in it for a medium-length period of time, it would take me a little closer to the land of the living. I can only sit in the kitchen chairs for about 20 minutes before I’m tired and in pain and I avoid the couch because it’s low, so I’d be able to sit on it, but then would not be able to get back up without help.
As for crab, it’s one of the few things I miss, meat-wise. I’ve been vegetarian since about the first minute I had any choice in the matter, but I used to LOVE seafood- all kinds of fish, crab, mussels, shrimp, I even tried octopus once. I didn’t love it (it was very rubbery), but my dad said it hadn’t been prepared properly. As I recall, we got it from the regular grocery store- like it was behind a counter, probably with other seafood and I wanted to try it, so we got it and I think my dad cooked it. I was like… ten? so the details are fuzzy. That is one of the only things I feel like I’m sort of missing out on, though- like now that I’m an adult, I could have fish for every meal if I wanted to and if I wanted to spend my money on crab, I could do so. But I don’t. Oh well.
I am feeling a smidge better today. The kid came back from her dad’s last night. I had bought a slime-making kit (it popped up when I was looking for glue and it was on clearance) last time I got a grocery delivery and she spotted it on the counter right away when she got here. So I wasn’t sure I was up for slime-making, but she was so excited about it, I couldn’t say no. It’s just glue and “activator” and you mix it together and- voila! The kind I got uses sparkly glow-in-the-dark glue, so she’s completely thrilled and so proud of her slime.
I took a picture of it. (I think swampbear saw it.) You probably wouldn’t want to know why there was a cleaver and a mallet next to it, and why the other picture I took of it was blurry.
Actually, most rocking chairs are easy to propel yourself out of, hence old folks liking them. I’m looking at putting one in my studio. I have two out on the patio and they are very comfy. Make sure that you get a standard height one and it should be no problem.
"Two other species of fish are similar to N. multifasciatus; N. similis and N. brevis. The three species are similar enough that stores normally sell them all under the common name “shellies” or “shell dwellers”. "
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 64 and rainyish out with a predicted high of 80 and mostly cloudy for the day. The rain should go away this mornin’. Today is Palm Sunday so we shall virtually deheathenate via the Diocese. Not anywhere near as good as it would be in person, but it’s sump’n. We shall sup on steak, company smashed N.O.T., bacon wrapped spareguts, and bizkits. YUM!
Flytrap I’m pretty sure none of my friends are as tasty as fish. Then again, I am not in the habit of tastin’ my friends, so what do I know.
Dots I say go for the rockin’ chair. If for no other reason than they’re fun to sit on and rock. Sit in and rock? Not sure which one might be correct.
MOOOOOOM yay for Roxstar’s swingset!
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, onward into the day. Rah.
Woke just after 4 and I’ve been up ever since. Gonna be a long day… But I’m breakfasting on pizza, so yum there!
Today, I’m going to Lowe’s for the rest of the stuff I need to finish Roxy’s tower, plus stuff to repair 2 benches that came with the house. The wood is pretty much rotted and in need of replacing. And I’ll get some good exterior paint to help preserve it.
For supper, I’ll rotiss the chickie I was going to make the other day. And that’s the extent of my plans. Oh, except maybe I’ll stop at Aldi on the way back from Lowe’s - we need butter and I’d like to get some ribs.
