Now and then: what to do when it rains? OK, so now, it’s pretty my stay inside like we’ve been staying inside. But let’s assume a normal world - does rain affect your daily routine?
When you were a kid and couldn’t go outside to play, how did you pass a rainy day? Don’t worry - the statute of limitations is probably up by now.
Morning all. The long nappage meant I arose early today, so might even get something accomplished…
Had a rain-all-day yesterday here, it really doesn’t affect my plans, since the car still fits in the garage I can reach it without getting wet so travel is not hard. But most days I don’t go out so no big thing. I have my internettin’ and books and TV to keep what ‘s left of my mind entertained. Except for the internettin’, that’s how I did it as a kid, too.
Making out the weekly to-do’s and menu for the week, need to go to Jersey Mike’s to pickup lunch (I’m trying to support local restaurants as much as possible) and also stop for bread and maybe a few other things today. Dr. appointment tomorrow, but that’s all the week holds at the moment.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 85 and mostly N.O.S. this afternoon. We shall spiff da cave today. Shouldn’t be an arduous task as the place is fairly clean, but nonetheless we shall. I also need to go out to pick up a prescription this afternoon. Also, is Vestry meetin’ which shall be via Zoom. I’m hopin’ it will be a shortish meetin’. Sup shall be leftovers from yestiddy.
I do not like to drive in the rain. Never have. When I was still irkin’ I did cause I had to but now, unless it is truly necessary, like a doc appointment or some such, I don’t. I do, however like to sit out on the back porch and watch it rain. As a kid, I would hole up in the room I shared with my younger brother on rainy days. I’d read, or he and I would play games until we started fightin’ in which case mom would separate us. He was the one who went someplace else, usually the livin’ room. If I wanted to watch teevee I’d go in the livin’ room. We wouldn’t fight there cause the reason to be there was the teevee which we both liked. Also the house I grew up in had a hyuuuuuuuuuuuuge front porch that was a good place to be if it was just rainin’. If it was stormy we couldn’t go out there. I had a friend whose mother would send him and his sibs (there were like eight of ‘em) out in the rain in bathin’ suits with a bar of soap in warm weather. I thought it was weird as a kid, but as an adult, I think maybe that made sense. Got 'em outta her hair for a bit and got 'em cleaned at the same time.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day. Rah.
The house where I grew up was all of 1000 sq ft, and depending upon which year, there were from 3 to 5 of us kids. So rainy days could get, um, loud. We had no covered outside area, which left us with the basement most of the time. Mom wasn’t a fan of TV - we had limited viewing times.
But the basement held coloring books and crayons, Lincoln Logs, Tinker Toys, dress-ups, a record player, and sometimes we’d even try to skate, tho space was limited. All my Barbie stuff was in the bedroom I shared with my sister. We did learn early, tho, not to say we were bored, lest we be handed a dustrag!
I’m not sure what today will hold, but the rain is supposed to end early this afternoon. I suppose I could dust in the interim.
Well, when it rains or snows here in the 'burgh, too many drivers lose their minds and forget how to drive at the sight of that first raindrop or snowflake. People, we’re in SW PA, snow is nothing new. Add in the infamous “tunnel slowdowns” and it’s extra fun. For those who haven’t driven here, we have a fair number of tunnels. They’re really not scary portals to another dimension (usually) but way too may drivers panic at the sight of that ginormous hole in the mountainside and slow down, apparently thinking their little sedan won’t fit into it at normal driving speed.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. The storms have passed, with just a flicker of power here, but Gordie was barking at the wind. Although one of my friends in The Quay has a tree on here house(slight to no damage, apart from her nerves). I had Legos, and Atari 2600, a dog, and if the parents were at work, gin.
Depends on who’s driving the motorcycle you’re on.:D;)
I even forgot it is Moonday until I saw the new MMP.
Even then I wondered why somebody started one in the middle of the week.
No playdate today, so I slept in until after 7.
It’s a windy, rainy, 61 degrees outside, supposed to get up into the low 70s.
I sat outside with the dogs for a bit, until I started feeling the chill.
The rain never stopped me from going to the dog park. Like Swampy, I don’t like driving in the rain, but the park is only 2 miles away. There is a pavillion there so we can stay out of the rain. It gets muddy, but I don’t care about the mud. I prefer not to grocery shop in the rain, but that is because my poor son has to carry all the groceries in through the rain. However, the senior citizen discount is more important to me than a dry son, so if it is raining on Toosday we get groceries anyway.
I don’t do yard irk in the rain, other than that, a rainy day is just another day. There is plenty to do inside.
When we were kids we played inside. Don’t remember much of what we did, guess it depended on how old we were, and of course our friends were right across the street so we’d all be at somebody’s house.
We also learned pretty quickly to never complain about being bored, there was always something to dust, vacuum, or scrub. We also learned to be quiet during storms because my mother told us that noise attracts lightning (she learned that from her grandmother who had 12 kids), so we had to be quiet or lightning would strike our house. We also had to unplug everything during storms, so no TV, no radio. No talking on the phone as lightning could come through the wire, no taking a bath as lightning could strike the plumbing, no sitting near open doors and windows as lighning balls could come through them.
To this day, during storms, I still feel like I have to be quiet, I won’t talk on a land line, and I won’t get a shower or bath. I *will *sit on the covered deck or porch and watch the storm though.
I made a normal paycheck last week, finally! I hope the slow down is over and irk gets back to normal. I was starting to worry.
It’s 36 degrees with a wind advisory. Humph. I don’t remember rainy days as a kid. I’m guessing we went into the basement or in our rooms and played. I probably read.
I wish today’s nice weather could have been yesterday. Easter was windy, cold, and rainy, today it’s a bit chill but bright and sunny.
Yesterday I was in church, believe it or not. My mom’s church, where I grew up, is quite large and has two pastors. They did a series of services of nine people each. This was to stay in accord with the state mandated limit of ten person gatherings. So in the nave there would be one, and in the covered courtyard another. The services were shorter, thirty minutes, with fifteen minutes between so one group went out and the other came in. Spaced out chairs were sanitized and nothing, even the bulletins, was reused. At no time did groups come together. You came in by one door and left through another. There was a total of nineteen services, for 171(9x19) worshippers. I must say it was very well organized, one had to sign up on the church website so there was no overload at any time. They worked hard to stay within the law.
I wish the dog park was open, Mauser is getting a case of cabin fever, just like me.
FCM, Ive been doing as you have but now I absolutely have to clean. I wish I had someone around like swampie, he seems to like “spiffing” things up.
Sahirrnee, I have the same problem as you, without Sunday and church to mark the weeks it’s getting harder to keep track of what day it is.
I live in England, rainy days are the daily routine
When I was a kid, it meant reading a lot. We didn’t have a television, so sitting in, reading and playing with toys was all we had to do. Now, well, it just doesn’t affect my life much; unless it’s absolutely hammering it down, I’m in and out as normal. Turns out I dry out pretty well.
Yet another day in doing not much. I am definitely starting to lose track of days… Still got two assignments left to finish off, including the big one. I still have over a month, though it’s hard to get the motivation up right now. Still, I’m plodding along.
I grew up in a rainy area, so that was normal. I was a bookworm as a kid, also had Lego, Lincoln Logs, other toys, and pets to help keep me occupied.
Took today as FMLA since DH has a couple of medical appointments (by phone, but he still prefers to have me available), and took advantage of a chance to hit stores at opening. A triumphant hunt, since I did score a 75-ct tub of disinfectant wipes (destined for my desk at irk) and a can of Lysol. I did still have some Lysol (well, store brand) on hand, but was starting to hit the point where I would want to get more under normal conditions anyway.
All of this. No talking on the phone, no bath, being quiet.
I finally slept last night so back to normal I hope. I think I will go to irk tomorrow for a few hours to do some training and maybe some A/P.
Happy new week everyone. Be safe and avoid the plague.
Well, made a Kroger stop to pick up some odds and ends and glory be!, there was toilet paper to be had–quite a bit of it, too. I don’t need it, I’m good till the 4th of July, but there didn’t seem to be a mad rush to grab it, either. Maybe people are calming down some. Bread, celery, tomatoes, and bananas were well-stocked. Also picked up a copy of the New York Times for reading over the next couple of days.
Am knoshing on my Jersey Mike’s sub, have another one in the refrigerator for tomorrow.
57F outside. Heater is back on (drat).
Baker, sounds like your church pastors were responsible and dutiful citizens as well as pastors. Well done.
The sun is shining. I was going to get off irk at 2 today, but since it was raining, I decided to stay on until 4.
Now I wish I had stuck to 2, there is lots that needs to be done outside.
I was going to order groceries today but some of the stuff I want is in store only, so I guess I’ll just go in the store.
We have to go get dog food. I usually order it from da jungle but it won’t get here in time, so we’ll go to the store where one of my park friends work. I let her know we’ll be out there tomorrow and she’ll have some food picked out for me. Her store is roped off, only two people in at a time and you can go only from the door to the counter. You tell them what you want and they go get it off the shelf for you.
I switch up brands all the time, so I don’t care what brand, as long as it is grain free, and the dogs prefer fish. The stinkier the better.
I haven’t seen Adam yet today. That is a worry. When I get up my normal time he is waiting at the door to come in. I’ve been sleeping in a lot, I guess he gets tired of waiting and moves on.
We are counting down the weeks until my son finishes school. I think it is four more. I keep pushing him to get everything done as early as he can so he can be done with it and start doing some stuff around here.
Then he can get a job, and his license.
I will be so happy when good will and places like that open back up so I can get rid of a bunch of the stuff piled up around here waiting to be donated.
I have a box of electronics that need to go to bestbuy to be recycled. A box of books that needs to go to my mother’s for the younger boys. A box of food that friend2 left here at Thanksgiving. A bag of cell phones that need to be donated, I don’t know if the sheriff’s dept still takes them to give to people as emergency phones? My son has a huge collection of pokemon cards he wants to sell. I have a bunch of silver to sell, but I think the price is too low right now. I don’t even know if I can take branches to the dump right now. I think they are open but discouraging people from coming. Yard waste pickup is suspended.
I feel like everything is on hold.
Howdy Y’all! We spiffed da cave and I picked up my ‘script from the pharmacy. Excitatin’ mornin’! The number of new COVID19 cases reported around here seems to be slowin’ down. We’re not out of the woods by a long shot, but that’s at least some positive news things might slowly get back to normal sooner than maybe expected. Also we’ve had N.O.L. and nappage shall ensue shortly.
I grew up in L.A., where it rarely rained. The slightest sprinkle would see us kept in the classroom during lunch and recess. My parents, despite being So. Cal. neighbors, had a very different mind set, and were inclined to chuck us out the door into the downpours (ha!). I have always loved the rain. I lived in the Santa Cruz mountains for several years and then Oregon. Rain is awesome. Sun, as you know, is evil.
I’ve got a grocery order coming in a bit. I am switching back and forth between the desire to work on tidying up the house and a complete lack of desire to do anything at all.
