It's hurricane season in the MMP

Lay in your supplies and prepare to batten down the hatches, unless you’re not along the east or gulf coast, in which case, Happy June!!

And Happy Moanday!

Morning all. We have a week of 85F days and little chance of rain…may have to deploy the sprinklers later this week.

No hurricanes here and tornado season is pretty much over, so just heat and fire ants to worry about. And supplies have been laid in for quite awhile.

Quite week here, I think. We’ll see.

All y’all take care.

Oh, my lord, is it really Monday already again? Who the hell approved this shit?

Meh, who’m I kidding. I work retail, I don’t have a seven-day week. I have two days, in fact - work day & non-work day. Very binary.

Today is non-work day, and so is tomorrow, so technically, thus comenceth my weekend! WHOOOT!

Afternoon, mumpers…happy Moanday!

We have neither hurricanes nor tornadoes over my side of the Pond, just the usual sprinkling of Covidiots  It’s hot again today, the weatherman on my lunchtime news said we’d had over 600hrs of sunshine for spring which is about 150-200hrs more than expected. Fortunately we are looking at cooler temperatures for midweek onwards and hopefully some rain as well.

I’d planned to take Wednesday afternoon off and go over to visit a couple of friends, at an appropriate distance, of course. One of them has a birthday on Thursday so I have a gift to deliver and I need to fit it in around them going fishing today and Thursday, and a vet visit with one of the ferrets who needs a lump investigated on Tuesday. So a midweek half-day for me, I think. Well, it’s not like I’m going anywhere else, is it?

My boss is officially retired. Now I’m the head of the department. I’ve got to keep an eye on the data guy. He’s a real jerk.

In my 13 years with the company, the data department went from my boss with four people under her to my boss and me… and now just me.

P.S. because I never say up front what I was thinking, or at least not all of it …

I am neither, but I did so anyway - it’s apparently Lootin’ And Riotin’ season, along with hurricane season, so batten away! Laid in four whole rolls of toilet paper for myself, along with a box of Lipton and some kitty litter a.k.a. cat toilet paper, so together with my beloved Nikki, I shall live like a queen. With a nice fresh cuppa!

Having roasted a whole chicken last night - and picked off the best bits as “dinner” along with the screamingly delicious bread underneath - I now have this entire carcass of roasted meat to deal with. I foresee a fresh batch of broth/soup in my very near future, along with a fridge full of NikkiChicken for Nikki, who likes chicken.

Oh, do you like chicken, too? Then roast one perched on top of thick slabs of crusty bread. Eat the bread. Feel the benevolence of a universe that loves you and wants you to be happy.

I’ll be rotissing a chicken for supper tonight - just pulled it out of the fridge to finish thawing. And I have some eggs on to boil for whatever.

I’ve been outside and I pulled a few weeds, plus I paid a bill. So I guess I did have some stuff to do. I should tidy my desk, too.

Typical case of the Moanday donwannas, plus bonus worries about reaching irk safely after last night’s installment of rioting. NOT the way to convince me you have a valid political point, endangering innocent bystanders and cleaning out high-end stores. That just convinces me you’re either having a seriously deranged tantrum or are sociopathic enough to use any possible excuse to harm others for your gain.

Triple digit temperatures predicted from tomorrow through Thursday. Yay.

It’s 48ºF here. I’m wearing shorts and a T-shirt.

Last week the A/C was needed. It started off at 43ºF here this morning. Back to sweatshirts!

Good Afternoon Y’all! Or it will be by the time I post this. Been up for a while so all caffienated and no YAWN. ‘Tis 81 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 87 and cloudy for the day. We also have a LOCAL POLLEN ALERT. We have spiffed up da yahd, hence the reason I am now just postin’. We mowed, edged, weedeated (is too a word!), and trimmed up stuff. A load of limbs and such got taken to the county landfill by moi. Now we are all showered and have ingested N.O.L. I foresee nappage soon.

We had a hurricane here in October of 2018. It was a CAT 1. I do not ever want that again. I suppose I should make some “No Hurricanes” signs. I am used to rain, wind etc. from the outer bands of 'canes, but this was an actual for real hurricane.

In other news, our brand new Bishop is comin’ tomorrow to record services for this comin’ Sunday at all three local churches. Thus I must head over to the church house at some point this afternoon and make candles ready. Also, EYP has asked me to record a scripture readin’ for our Wednesday Evening Prayer service, so I must needs look a bit presentable and record. Actually lookin’ forward to that.

No riotin’ around here though there was a peaceful protest on Sattidy. I read all about it yestiddy. Did not even know it when it happened.

Now I shall betake myself into yon bedroom for nappage.

Laterz!

Wouldn’t that be weedate or weedet, as y’all say there in the south??

Just finished a big salad for lunch - it was yum! Chillage shall now ensue.

What comes after the hurricane season?

The hurricane playoffs.

Happy Moanday to you!

We skipped the news yesterday. Anybody who wants my opinion can have it, but I ain’t volunteering it.

Our sprinkler system out front went berserk this morning and instead of running for half an hour, kept on running, and I had to turn it off myself at 6:20 when I took the dogs out. (It’s 'sposed to run from 5am to 5:30am, 15 min on each section)

If that’s the worst thing that happens to me today, it’ll still be a pretty good day.

Gotta go. Wifey needs this computer.

Since the device is called this, I say he weedwacked the yard…

Swampy, have fun cleaning and recording.

nettie, alien, flyboy, weather be weird. Here it’s 76F heading for 84F, evenings in the mid-60’s and it is supposed to be stay that way for the rest of the week.

Well. flyboy, at least you’ll know who to give the bonus too…

boofae, enjoy the visit and avoid the idiots.

Purp, when I worked in the UAE, my weekends were Friday and Saturday, which made communications back here (no too mention the 10-hour time difference) interesting. Are those your ‘regular’ weekends or do they vary (cause that would really mess things up, IMHO)

OK, midday meal has been purchased and consumed (I spoiled myself and got an extra bag of potato chips) so readin’ and internettin’ and possibly nappin’ are all in play now.

All y’all take care.

Jarhead, we’ve already got one Carolina Hockey fan…isn’t that our limit???

Morning all.

Full house today. Along with the boyfriend and his dog, we’ve also got my roommate’s son here. He’s 14 and lives with his dad and doesn’t generally choose to hang out with her, so she bribed him with a new skateboard and he spent the night. Apparently it’s like a $600 skateboard. I know nothing about skateboards, so I have no idea what the standard price is or what makes this one special, but apparently it is.

Once again, we were supposed to have carpenters first thing this morning and, of course, they have not materialized. This seems to me a weird way to work. Like I get that sometimes weather gets in the way, but like… that’s not always the reason. It’s clear out today and supposed to be clear tomorrow and then rain the rest of the week, so if the weather is the problem, I would think they’d be eager to get it done when they can. And when they do come, it’s more than one person, so obviously there’s SOME planning and coordinating and it’s not just like one dude decides he feels like dropping by to do some work. It’s just… not when they say it’s going to be or, for the most part, even loosely correlated to when they say it’s going to be. And I’m also not necessarily annoyed that it’s taking a long time. Like I realize they may have other projects going and such and it’s not that I’m impatient to have it finished (although I am a bit). It’s being told they’ll be here every day, getting up early to make sure everything’s ready, and having everything prepared because they might show up at any moment… including keeping the animals confined and keeping the kitchen rearranged so it’s mostly not usable. It’s a first world problem, but it’s a pain.

The company president sent out an email this morning, saying that we may go to a phased reopening (mixed telecommuting and in-office) perhaps as early as next week, and ‘certainly’ by the 15th. I’m on the schedule for being in-office on Tuesdays and Thursdays – which are the days i normally went down before the pandemic.

Who are we kidding? It’s hurricane season everywhere, socially and politically speaking. We get buffeted by the winds of change and flooded with troublesome news. Sometimes it feels like we’re waving good-bye to the roof.

My own view is that condemnation without true (complex) understanding will only bring more of the same trouble.

I’ve been up for three hours and finally got a chance to pee. (Is that TMI?) My sister (the one with the dying husband who won’t die) called because there are new wrinkles in that situation, and she’s already past her last nerve, so needed help making decisions. Then my niece called because she’s having in-law issues. Anyway, I’m relieved now.

flyboy, I don’t know whether to send congrats or condolences. May your work burdens be light, if such is possible.

One of my friends threw away her “2020 Disaster Bingo” card yesterday. Once you get past the pandemic, toilet paper shortages, murder hornets, rioting and looting, we had the “Fine, you win!” square filled in with reports of an escaped tiger from the zoo. Tigers and other predators were counted and all were in their appropriate places, so more likely, people were trying to distract the police.

The civilly disobedient around here need to set their sights higher. Yesterday afternoon, they did some relatively modest looting at Target and the Dollar Tree near my house. AFAIK, nobody tried to get into the Best Buy about a half mile away.

Meanwhile, PWAISDN is getting ready for his new role as a “Covid-19 Supervisor” as that’s something cooked up by the county as requirement for all hair salons. Mainly it means he knows where the hand sanitizer is located, and being able to provide the 30-page “written plan” for sanitation. I predict that exactly zero clients will ask to see it.

My salon reopened. I have an appointment tomorrow. When I booked it, the receptionist said, “Please wear a mask if you’re comfortable in doing so, but if you’re not, it’s fine to come in without it.” Well, of course I’m going to wear one. I’m not a fool, and I do give a rip about my fellow humans, but if there are other clients there not wearing masks, I’ll rebook. I’m too high risk to chance it.
