Cabin fever in the MMP

Your story about your cousin struck a chord with me Mom. A few years ago I made a list of all my friends and family who had died from cancer. IIRC there were 12 names on that list. I threw it away. There would be a couple more names now.

Sorry if I bummed anybody out there.

We have internet but no live TV here. Our little town (<500 people, in the winter) is down in a valley so no line-of-sight to any over the air TV transmitters without a tall antenna. One of the Portland stations transmits their news shows over the internet, but on their schedule. We watch it some times but it’s so much of the same ol’, same ol’.

I’m not a terribly social person, anyway, so I don’t mind the isolation all that much, but I have all of these projects I want to do here and most of my tools are back in the (Willamette) valley. Also I need materials, lumber and such. So not doing anything when there are things that need doing is a drag.

We’ll probably drive the 40 miles to the nearby big(ger) city tomorrow and go to the grocery store and home depot and bi-mart there. They had one confirmed case at the veterans home there, so it’s not entirely safe, but we need provisions. We only have 18 and 2/3 rolls of TP.

We’re supposed to get a delivery from da jungle today, Yay!. Also later I’m gonna talk, on the phone, with my money guy about the pitiful remnants of my IRA. and afterwards walk down the street and talk to one of the locals to see if he has a burn barrel we can have. Exciting times!

Kimmel is right, it is possible to watch everything there is on Netflix.

Y’all have a good week.

I tried watching the governor give the message but he took too damn long to spit it out.
Very annoying, just say what you have to say and be done with it.

I don’t know if this means we can’t have the puppy playdates in the morning?
It is less than 10 people, but then we’re not supposed to go out.
I am so sick of all the damn emails I get everyday. One from my doctor’s office every friggin day, one from the medical center every friggin day.
They say the same damn thing every day.
Every damn business or service I have used it sending me an email every damn day. We’re cleaning, we’re sanitizing, we care about your health and safety.
Whatever, you just want my money.

I have my groceries ordered and scheduled to pick up tomorrow.

Afternoon all. Winter comforter is at the Dry Cleaners, need to break out the (smaller/lighter) warm season comforter. All shopping is completed, so inside I will be the rest of the day. It’s more crowded on the roads today, don’t know if it’s because it’s Moanday or people are getting restive.

Sari, I’m getting some e-mails, but not one-a-day from the same company/group. Trash is your friend.

Bumba, have never (to the best of my knowledge) used Netflix, guess I may have to start.

FCM, while most of my relatives are gone now, most did live into their 70’s/80’s (and my dad made it to 91) and not much cancer history among them. One way or another, we ain’t getting off this planet alive…

All y’all take care.

Daughter and SIL took the trash and recycling, and while there, they grabbed a kid’s play car that someone left for whoever. It’s all scrubbed up and awaiting Roxy. It looks like it may be a wee bit small for her, but she’ll play with it - she loves cars!

I just put the meatloaf and half a dozen small russets in the oven. I’ll sauté onions and mushrooms to go with it, and cook up something green - maybe peas? Good supper ahead.

Yeah, so I started feeling a little cabin feverish. I asked Mrs. L.A. if she wanted to go for a drive. ‘Right now?’ asked she. ‘I figure it’s time for a lunch break, and I want to get out.’ So we drove down the beach and through the state park. We saw an bald eagle in the bay (the tide is out), not too far from the road. Looks like it caught a fish. It took off as we passed. On the way back, we saw two bald eagles in the bay, and one coming in for a landing. Again, not too far from the road.

We drove up the beach to our street, and I turned to go around the county park. I turned the other way, and we went out to the Semiahmoo Spit. On the seaward side, we saw another eagle on the beach. We got out at the old cannery and walked out on the dilapidated pier. I’d like to shoot a horror movie there. Maybe I’ll get out the Canon Scoopic or the Beaulieu R16 (they’re both Ultra 16) and grab some B&W footage. I’d take the Aaton super-16, but it takes 400’ rolls and I don’t have any.

And now… back to irk.

I’m sleeping same as ever, but then I’m working same as ever as I’m already a full-time telecommuter doing bank security, which seems fairly essential.

PWAISDN’s sleep is horribly screwed up. Last night he came to bed at 5AM and slept to 9. the day before, he went to bed at midnight and woke up at 3:30. As a hairstylist, he’s completely out of work for at least another month. He’s dead flat broke and hoping to work something out to put off or reduce his booth rents. One minor bright spot is that he’s a member of a beauty industry association that has offered a $500 grant. Some of the people he works alongside never thought there was any value to joining the association for $40 per year. Guess the joke’s on them.

Howdy Y’all! We defilthyfied da cave and had leftovers for sup. That’s pretty much been the extent of the day. OYKW said today he feels like he decided to retire just in time. Home healthcare still happens but the irkload has slowed down considerably accordin’ to his replacement as manager. Layoffs have been made. He would have hated to do that, so I’m glad that did not fall to him.

MOOOOOOM sorry about your cousin. I have no parents, aunts, or uncles anymore so now ‘tis my generation of family who will be dyin’ out.

OK, enough of the gloom and doom. I am havin’ a cuppa caffeine and chillaxin’.

Oh… Looking over the pier, I spotted a very large Dungeness crab in the water.

Mrs. L.A. wants me to procure a dungee for dinner on Friday. I hope the fishmonger is open.

Both locations (Blaine and Ferndale) are closed. I talked to a guy at the headquarters, and he said he’d be there smoking fish on Friday. He said I could probably score a crab.

Good afternoon y’all.

We’ve battened down the hatches. No one leaves unless it’s emergency. Son-of-a-wrek has been pressured into taking all his vacay time. His industry (heavy equipment) is necessary to keep plants running.
But he has to go to Louisiana too much and those calls are right out. I’m happy he’s home with his family.
The only one of ‘us’ that’s missing is Mid-daughters husband. He’s a chef in New Orleans. Still working. He can’t come here. My health and Big Wreks age are concerns.

But as it stands we’re safe and home and not viral. Crossed fingers.

Of course my sleep is as screwy as ever. I’m worrying everyone. I can’t help it. I’m trying, I really am.

Y’all Keep Calm and Sanitize.

There was a fat envelope in the mail from our accountant. I was afraid to open it, figuring we’d have to pay a chunk of change.

Nope - we’re getting nice refunds from both the Feds and the state. I’m sure it’s because we put up the building last year. This year for sure, we’ll have to pay estimated taxes, since we won’t be building anything.

Supper was good, even tho the meatloaf was falling apart. I probably didn’t get all the air out of the middle of it. But it was yum. And I got some raking done - tomorrow, I hope to move some dirt to fill some ruts. It’ll make mowing a lot easier.

And the day winds down. I should sleep well, after all the raking I did.

Mooooom, the carrot onion soup is pretty easy. As a bonus, for swampy, baker and anyone else observing Lent, it’s vegetarian. Here goes:

Carrot Onion Soup

2 lbs. carrots, peeled 2 onions
6 cups vegetable broth 2 TBsp. olive oil
1/2 bunch cilantro, chopped 2 tsp. ground coriander
Salt and pepper to taste 5 toes of garlic

Chop the onions, carrots and garlic and sauté in the olive oil in a dutch oven. Once the onions are translucent, add the rest of the ingredients and cook until all of the vegetables are soft. Blend with an immersion blender and serve.

When all is said and done, the batch filled almost 4 2-cup bowls to put in the fridge for lunch this week. I liked it with toast and cheese.

bumba, my mom’s family has a similar track record with cancer. Most of them were heavy smokers and it bit them in the ass when they got older.

I got the patio and postage stamp cleaned up, played 342 rounds of fetch with Nelson and Kobe, the GSD two doors down (that’s not counting the ones that Kobe’s human threw. :stuck_out_tongue: ) and did the next MS chapter (I’m learning things years of using Excel and Access on the job have never taught me). Tonight, I’ll play in the studio.

missred, that soup sounds wonderful…Tomorrow I’m going to post a soup I got off a can of diced tomato. Surprisingly tasty.

Glad you foodies can exchange recipes; me, if if fits int he microwave I’m good.

FCM, glad you’re getting money back; I’ve got both state and US refunds back already. Nice to have a little extra handy.

flyboy, when wife wanted crab, why didn’t you just dive in off the pier and get her one?

Dinner provided by Jack’s (not Jack in the Box, this is a local Ali-bama chain) and collected my Utilities bill, along with information on long-term insurance if you have to go into long-term care/old folk’s home. Haven’t read everything yet, but seems rather pricey for what amounts to 2-4 years of coverage. Think I’ll hold fast to what I’ve got now.

Rain is in Mississippi but heading this way. Looks especially wet in Arkansas right now, so take care.

Is your Jack’s a BBQ? Because Nashville has Jack’s Barbeque chain. I don’t know how widespread they are.

As far as the foodie stuff goes, even a non-cook could handle this one.

So they started a state wide stay at home thing. But you can still buy guns and go to the likker sto.:dubious: Made Italian chicken with roasted red **N.O.T.**s with rosemary garlic salt and lemon basil garlic spinach.
Sorry about your cousin, FCM.

Hope the quarantine is over soon, Nettie.

My 14 days ends Friday. Won’t venture among the clean-ish until Saturday.

Morning, mumpers!

Absolutely nothing of any excitement to report here…except I had to venture into the Great Outdoors last night to put the rubbish out as it’s collection day today. That also means going out to drag the empty bin off the pavement in a few minutes because the binmen are just coming past the house. Oh, the excitement! How will I cope?

I’m working at home so have decided to be an adult today. Got proper clothes on, washed my hair and even put my earrings in for a change. I am all spruced up in case anyone wants a skype chat later. My boss has threatened a conference call later to talk to me and my oppo about staff reviews since that’s creeping up on us. Oh joy.

Aside from that, I’m faffing about on t’interwebz and drinking tea.

I’ve seen advice on FB that you should clean the parts of your bins that the garbage collectors touch, since they handle hundreds if not thousands a day, so that woud be a good way for ickies to pass from one household to another.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 60 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 80 and rain/tstorms/apocalypse this afternoon. We shall see. Today is laundry day. HUZZAH! We are orderin’ sup from the good Mexican place. OLÈ! They have 16 oz. to go margaritas (curbside pickup only and then only with food purchase) to go, so we shall procure two of those as well. That shall be the extent of the excitatement at da cave today.

{{{Becks}}} just cause it looks like you could use a hug.

red the soup sounds nummy!

doggio nuttin’ says quarantine like likker and guns!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!
