Cake (a poll)

I like flan, too. I want Gateau St. Honore for my birthday. It’s not technically a cake- it’s cream puffs filled with custard, coated with caramel, and stacked in a pyramid. Then you put chocolate sauce and whipped cream on them.

Oooohhhh… yum.

  1. German Chocolate

I 'll share with Skerri

Doesn’t anyone else like those gummy sickly sweet fat icing roses? I feel so alone.

What I’d love, though, beyond all cake and icing roses, is the gooseberry tart my mom used to make when we were kids.

Does it have to be cake?

I’d rather have one of those great big chocolate chip cookies with chocolate frosting.

(whisper whisper)

Oh, all right. Mark me down for a Black Forest cake.

Cassata cake. Like they make on Murray Hill in Cleveland, with strawberries in the filling. One of the things I miss the most about my hometown.

I’ll have to settle for a Carvel Ice Cream cake. My birthday is in a couple weeks and the weather is entirely too lousy to drive to Ohio. :frowning:

It won’t be my birthday for about three more months, but I’d like “Other.”
Meaning Pie. As in Mmmmm, Pie.
Or When come back, bring Pie.
I hate cake. I hate frosting. Frosting is just gross.
I’d rather have Pie.
Apple Pie, Cherry Pie, or Blueberry Pie.
Pumpkin Pie, Chocolate Silk Pie, Blueberry Pie, or Banana Cream Pie.
Lemon Meringue Pie, Key Lime Pie, Turtle Pie, or Coconut Pie.
Or even cheesecake or flan.

But no cake!

My birthday is in August. So when I was a kid, I’d often get a Carvel ice cream cake for my birthday. I wouldn’t mind one of those again. But, I’m several thousand miles from the nearest Carvel. You can see the problem.

So I’d like what they call a lukket valnøtt in Trondheim and a marsipankake here: three layers of a spongy cake, moistened with sherry, filled with raspberry jam, walnuts and whipped cream, topped with a marcipan “lid” (and roses and all that for decoration). Second choice would be a Sacher torte from our neighborhood bakery. Mmmm, chocolate and plums…

Other: carrot cake , but it MUST have cream cheese frosting!

Molten Chocolate Lava Cake

or my mom’s chocolate pound cake with bittersweet icing.

Apple spice cake, please. With either buttercream or cream cheese frosting.

And where the hell were you last week when it was my birthday?

Homemade chocolate cake with peanutbutter fudge frosting.

Or Angelfood cake with chcolate whipped cream.

StG

It was my birthday a week ago (thank you, thank you - please, no applause) & I decided on a yellow cake with chocolate frosting… I’m also partial to devil’s food with vanilla frosting. Big icing roses are a plus in my book!

Glory, that’s MY birthday cake! Every year til I was in my 20s!

  1. Carrot cake with cream cheese icing. Or tiramisu.
My husband’s vote would be for pumpkin pie - his birthday is in November.
  1. Other: Sachertorte
    or Other: Baklava
or Other: Tarte aux Framboises (Open pâte sablée tart with a layer of custard and fresh raspberries on top)
or the Boston Cream Pie that Oxymoron mentioned. I hadn’t heard of it before, and I’m liking it already.

My birthday is next week, and if I don’t get a Punchbowl Cake, someone’s gonna be sorry. It’s a yellow cake with so much fruit and sloppy, yummy goodness that you have to put it in a punchbowl to assemble it. And I want slightly melty chocolate ice cream. And a pony.

We used to make an actual pie that we called boston cream pie…

Take a baked pie shell of your choice (I like gramcracker) put in pudding/custard and top with a layer of cake then pour melted chocolate over the top and trim with whipped cream.

You’re gonna eat a pony? Ewwww! But it’s your birthday, so knock yourself out.

Not pony, donkey. Donkey taste like pie.

That donkey taste like donkey poop. Wrong end.

I don’t like cake, so my mother has always (and still does, even at the age of 41) made me chocolate chip cookies.
