I was born in upstate NY as well, but I don’t my birthplace a hometown ( I don’t have one of those ) - I left as a baby. In fact we moved every 1-2 years until I finally settled in CA for good in 8th grade. But I had lived here before in 3rd and 4th grade.
First time I moved to CA it was from NYC, the second time from a Detroit suburb.
Born and raised in California. Never lived in any other state. Now I live abroad, but I’m still a Californian and I want to vote in your poll! (My father and grandmother moved to CA from another state and my mother from another country, so it’s not like I have really deep roots there, but it’s a stronger identity for me than “American” is.)
Born in NY, went to college in Mass, then grad school in Illinois, the worked in NJ, then here, so I put down NJ.
And hope to get out before the big one hits.
Born in California and have never lived in another state. I have, however, moved around a little bit, spending my first 18 years in SoCal and my last 18 in the Bay Area.
I was born in California and have lived here my whole life, except for a few years in New York when I was very young. I even live in the same city I was born in.
Not only have I never lived outside of California, I’ve never lived outside of LA County. All but 12 years of my life have been spent living within the Los Angeles city limits, in fact.
I’m not sure how to vote. I spent my first 14 years in Florida. Then about 4 years in Colorado, then a few years in Mississippi, then a spell in Louisiana before coming to California in 1978.
Annnnnnd that, in a nutshell, is why I try to avoid going north of Ventura County. Y’all can keep your smug attitudes and crunchy hippie lives - I’ll stay here and enjoy yet another beautiful day in paradise.
Meh. This state would be far less interesting if both halves didn’t consider themselves superior to the other. Which is made all the more effective by the need to literally hold one’s nose while traveling from one side to the other.
Oh, totally. As much as Frisco bugs me, I’ll defend it to any non-Californian who dares slag it off. But that doesn’t mean I’ll sit by and let them talk crap about the Angel City, either.
