No, it actually was sincere. It’s good to get things going in the community.
This is unfortunate. I was really looking forward to shooting you guys all in the face.
Anybody else have sufficient upstream to host a server? Otherwise it may be in our best interests to find a mostly-abandoned pub, as SenorBeef mentions.
Best of luck with your troubleshooting, SB. I hope it’s just a funky PSU and not a fried board.
I just acquired the “face shield” perk, so no luck for you on my trooper…
Well, I finally got my issue resolved and my computer is back up and running. I’m temporarily stuck with a crappier video card (7950) but it shouldn’t affect my ability to host, especially if I keep the resolution down.
You guys want to give Wednesday night at 8pm eastern/5 pacific a try for an SDMB game? We could try again on Saturday afternoon if weekends work better for people. We could have a fun game with just a few people if we pick the right game modes and maps, especially if people are using voice chat extensively to really promote teamwork.
I’m in.
I’m in for either day.
I’m in but voicelessly. My old microphone doesn’t seem to be able to produce sound above a whisper and the only other one I have is integrated into my webcam, so I don’t know how that will work in conjunction with a game.
I’m on for both days - although I may be slightly late on Wednesday.
Hope you guys all picked up the face shield perk. :3
Well, including my SDMB lurker friend who plays games with us, that’s 6. That’s a good start. Some of my favorite games were 3v3 headquarters matches where I used voice chat with my teammates and it was more a coordinated tactical shooter experience than the standard run and gun COD4 experience.
Hopefully we’ll have some more people sign up by then too. Anyone is welcome, regardless of skill level - we can alter the teams to balance things out, and I doubt anyone here is super good and will slaughter everyone else.
Well actually, I’ve been regularly getting around 80 kills and 6 deaths when kitted out and trying during headquarters matches, but I promise to show up drunk to even things out.
And build yourself a ridiculous kit too to handicap yourself
This 7950 I’m using currently runs ridiculously hot. ATITool testing gets it up past 111C, which is crazy. And I’ve got a massive cooling case that moves crazy amounts of CFM and I’m still getting that temp. It seems stable though, so I guess it can run in that range.
A google search tells me the throttling temp is 130c. Nuts.
Okay, I tested the server with a friend tonight and everything seemed okay. A random pubber dropped in (no password was set for the test) so presumably it’s correctly listing publically and such.
I highly recommend you use voice chat if you’ve got a microphone. Go through your windows volume options (go to options, properties, click recording, make sure microphone is checked, click okay, make sure your microphone bar is maxed out, and if there’s an advanced properties with 20db mic boost, activate that too).
Then go in the game, set a voice chat key under controls, and go to multiplayer options and make sure voice chat is on.
Alright, about 9 hours to go.
The server isn’t up yet, but when it is it’ll be called “Straight Dope COD4”, you can (if all works right) find it on the public server list by sorting by name. Make sure you don’t have any filters set that may prevent you from seeing it (show empty, show full, passworded, etc).
The password will be cecil.
Or if you prefer, when it’s up, you can directly connect by opening the console (~) and pasting “connect 70.173.72.44” into it. You may also have to type “password cecil” into the console before you join - I’m not sure if COD4 prompts you or not for a password.
I’ll post again later when I get it up and running.
Ok, just got home from work, I got two hours worth of practice I can get in. Sweet.
I may only be able to play sporadically, and even then only until 10:00pm. Hard Knocks is on tonight! Bengals, baby!
People still watch TV on a schedule? What is this, the 19th century?
Sadly, my DVR is broken. I just looked for the server and didn’t see it.
I just put it up now. It make take a few minutes to register with the master server. You can join manually using “connect 70.173.72.44” in the console.
Btw, I can help you get a copy of the show if you need it, just PM me.
Captain_C told me on STEAM he probably wouldn’t be able to make it tonight. Two people said they’d probably be a little late, so it may just be 2 or 3 of us for a while. If that’s the case I can let a few pubbers in and we can play around with them for a while.
