Call Of Duty 4 (PC) SDMB multiplayer games

I’ll look again. I’ll be FGIE, I think. I will also be an easy kill as I suck at this game.

Looks like I didn’t have the 1.7 patch, which is preventing me from joining. Be there shortly!
Downloading…

I locked the game to keep out the leet bunnyhopping internet spazzes, so to connect to the server before you join type “/password cecil” in your console.

That was fun. You’re voice was much deeper than I expected a displaced Browns fan to be…

I didn’t know those factors fed into voice tone :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s funny you should say that actually - my voice isn’t as deep as it was because I’ve been displaced. Living in a desert, my throat dries and tightens up and my voice is higher pitched than it used to be. When I go home, my whole respiratory system isn’t so dried out and my voice gets deeper. So I can do a James Earl Jones cult leader voice. “Come to me, my child… remove your clothes”

… it works 10% of the time.

Anyway, unfortunately it was only 4 of us because two people didn’t show up and one left early. It was fun, but I’m hoping we can get 6+ of us together one of these days. Let’s aim for this sometime - what time works well for people?

I’ll need to figure out how to get the stupid living can’t hear the dead’s voicechat mechanic, because it’s really damn annoying. I set “voice_Deadchat” to 0 and 1 and neither affected whether or not the living could hear the dead’s voice chat.

Crap, I’d really like to get into this, but I’m on GMT+1 and this’d be in the middle of the night, for me. (For which my work schedule would suffer and my SO would make me suffer.)

But if there’s any EuroDopers who’d like to set up something similiar, let me know, yeah?

Could you make an earlier game on Saturday afternoon? Maybe if we started at 5pm EST it would be 11pm (I think) for you.

How does that sound to others? Anyone up for a saturday at 5pm EST game?

Does anyone know anything about server settings?

I’m looking to make it so that when the dead use voice chat, everyone (including the living) hears them. By default it works like counterstrike - the dead can only be heard by other dead. In CS or sabotage mode, this makes sense - but in other modes where everyone is only dead for a few seconds it’s just annoying. You’ll be talking to someone but they’ll only hear half your statement because they died, or you died, etc.

I have this section in my config file:

set sv_voiceQuality “5”
set voice_deadChat “1”
set g_deadChat “1”
set ex_DisplayChat_Name “1”

the voice_deadchat “1” is supposed to be the setting that lets the dead be heard by all, but it doesn’t seem to work. g_deadChat “1” is what sets it so that type chat by the dead is heard by everyone, and that worked correctly. ex_displayChat_Name “1” sets it up so that the person who’s chatting at that moment has their name appear at the bottom left of your screen.

I also turned hardcore mode off. It’s the way I play, but there are some new people playing with us and I’m guessing jumping right into hardcore is a more difficult experience.
What am I doing wrong?

I fixed the respawn delay issue btw, I set respawn times to 1 second except on sabotage where I left it at 7 seconds for balance reasons.

Well, anyway, I reworked the server settings to improve stuff and hopefully somehow fixed the voice chat issue. If not, the lowered respawn times will make it less of an issue - people won’t be out of communication for 10+ seconds like before.

I’m aiming to fire up the server and get a game going around 5pm eastern (under 2 hours). If I finish up what I’m doing now early I’ll get it out sooner. Hopefully we can get 6+ people on at one time to get a decent critical mass going.

Details are the same:

The server isn’t up yet, but when it is it’ll be called “Straight Dope COD4”, you can (if all works right) find it on the public server list by sorting by name. Make sure you don’t have any filters set that may prevent you from seeing it (show empty, show full, passworded, etc).

If it’s locked then the password will be cecil. You need to enter your password before you try to connect to the server if you’re connecting directly or else it will just say “invalid password”. Do this by typing in console “/password cecil” before attempting to connect. I may switch it from being locked/unlocked depending on how many SDMBers we have on, and if we need some pugs to fill out the game.

Or if you prefer, when it’s up, you can directly connect by opening the console (~) and pasting “connect 70.173.72.44” into it. You may also have to type “password cecil” into the console before you join - I’m not sure if COD4 prompts you or not for a password.

Game on.

Well, we’ve only had 4 people going, so it seems like interest died down. I’ll probably stop trying to run the games unless interest from people picks up again. Maybe I’ll try to start this up again when modern warfare 2 comes out.

But sometimes I get together with 2-3 friends, we join a ventrilo server (so we can keep our voice comms private) and go join a server that already has 3-6 people and then play 4 on 4 headquarters type games with us working on the same team. Pretty fun. If you want to get in on that, join the SDMB steam group (I tried to link to a thread but the search feature is broken right now - just search the game room for steam) and send me a message when you see me playing.

Sorry I never joined any of the games you hosted - my schedule last month was hectic.

I’ve got much more time off in Sept, so I’ll look for you on Steam and try to join up.

Thanks for the effort!
