Camera app for iPhone 6 or 6s

A friend is not satisfied with the basic camera quality of her iPhone 6 or 6s, so what is the best camera app she can find? Thanks.

Shit, I didn’t think there were camera apps. Photo editing post-production, sure. Tweak color saturation, or add cutesy ears onto your selfie. But that’s different from the camera function.

She’s unhappy, but what features is she missing?

Cuz I don’t think any app is going to improve the actual photo quality. That’s just however sharp the lens is.

It’s possible that lens sharpness is what she wants. I wasn’t sure.

Searching Google came up with this…

Since this is asking for advice, let’s move it to IMHO.

Well, iOS 13 has improved editing functions, but if she really wants to upgrade, the iPhone 11 has an amazing camera. A buddy just got the 11 and picture quality is unbelievable.

Kayaker is on the right track. To increase camera quality, the phone itself will have to be upgraded.

I have an iPhone 6 myself** because I am cheap and don’t need the right-now bells and whistles. Next iPhone I get will probably be an 8 or an X a year or two down the road. Either an 8 or an X would most likely (guessing without research) have a better/sharper camera than the 6/6s. I think the raw number of pixels captured by the cameras has been going up with each new iPhone model. Would have to research to put numbers on it … but maybe some of the other posters here have more informed advice.
*** I like the iPhone 6 camera a lot (previous was a Blackberry camera  ). While I can understand wanting the best of the best, I am curious as to what issue the OP’s friend is running into.*

I used Pro Camera app with my iPhone 6. It gives you control of more settings - or at least simulates it.

Nope. They went from 8 MP on the 6 to 12 MP on the 6s, but have stayed at 12 MP ever since, up to and including the top iPhone 11.

All right, my friend told me she wants some way to keep the camera on & running, whether or not the involves a camera app or something else.

Thanks for this. Naturally, I’m still on the 6. But it’s good to know that when I graduate to the 8 or X or whatever that I’ll have pretty much as good a camera as the very latest iPhone model.

FriarTed – does your friend basically want the phone to act in an immediate point-&-shoot manner? No unlocking the phone, no opening up any app … just having the phone always ready to snap a spontaneous pic at a picosecond’s notice?

Don’t know if I would go that far.
(Myself, I’m looking forward to the day that I can get one of these.)

That’s one of the advantages of being a late adopter. I’m fully accustomed to iPhone technology that’s several generations old now. The camera on an iPhone X (or even an 8) will seem like an immense upgrade.

An iPhone 11 might be too much too fast (although I’d probably get used to it). I’ve been trying to wrap my head around the three-camera thing. I don’t think I’m quite that serious about phone photography … hard to imagine all that extra hardware is of much use to a punter like myself.

I get excited about “more pixels!”, though, because one thing I do with my phone camera a lot is document imaging.

.

“More pixels” often means “worse pixels” although there are exceptions. Cramming lots of pixels into a very small sensor leads to lousy images, even with improvements in technology. It’s exactly why new cameras are coming with additional lenses, because that is practical and makes for better images.

All the extra hardware is there to try to take photographs good enough that it looks like you know what you are doing.

I like taking macro photos of any interesting small critters that I come across, which-- even when I can get within a couple of inches of them for the photo–can easily end up with me needing to crop away 90% or more of the frame. I really could practically use one of those 108 MP sensors. (My current phone has 13 MP.)

She had an emergency that she wanted to record, but apparently could not do it in time, so I think that was pretty much it.

Basically to access the video function without having to fumble through the buttons. Maybe a voice command?

Well, there are at least 10. (None of which will solve the OP’s friend’s problem, but maybe this will?)

I don’t know if it’s different on the 6 (I have the 7), but swiping left on the lock screen automatically opens the camera app. I’m not sure how any app could be faster than that.

The only other way would be to keep the camera open 24/7, I’d guess

Or hire three videographers, each working an eight hour shift. They could record continuously, while being prepared to take stills as needed.
