Can anyone confirm the existence of Truman Capote's "Local Color?"

In the past year, I’ve gotten into Truman Capote, and have read anything by him that I can get my hands on - the classics In Cold Blood, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the supremely underrated gothic americana of Other voices, Other rooms, and so on.

But my favorite stuff is his nonfiction, especially the interviews and little slices-of-life in “Music for Chameleons.” The little Capote bio in that book mentions “Local Color, a collection of travel writing.”

Well, I can’t seem to find it - not even a used copy! The closest thing I can find on Half.com is “Color Local,” which appears to be a spanish translation of the book.

Has anyone seen it or heard of it? Are the essays collected in something else by Capote?

Hi VCO3.

The book you describe IS in fact in existence yes. It is a limited edition with only 200 copies ever made. I have seldom seen any on offer, however, on a search this morning, I came up with this link - offering limited edition number #164 for sale. I dont know if its still available, but it may at least give you a link through which you can source another copy if this one has already been snapped up!

Hope that helps!

There must be other editions than the limited edition, because a search on Bookfinder using “truman capote” and “local color” gives at least 82 hits, ranging in price from $65 to $1500.
