Can California white sage be grown indoors?

I’ve been given some California white sage seeds, but I live in Canada and I don’t think this plant would survive our climate. Can it be grown indoors, and if so, are there any certain conditions it needs for this?

If you’re referring to Salvia apiana a.k.a. white sage, it’s one of those sages that likes hot, dry conditions and well-drained soil. It would probably not overwinter for you even with a protected spot. Indoors would be tough unless you had a brilliant southern exposure to locate the pot.

What you could do is start seed early indoors in a bright (hopefully sunny) spot and grow it outdoors for the season, again in fast-draining soil (possibly in a pot). I don’t know how big they get in one growing season (this one looks to be a slow grower), but a lot of tender Salvias do well as temperennials in colder climates.
