Can cats have... ahem... boogers?

Yesterday, I noticed that one of my feline sons sounded stuffy and and he was rubbing his paw over his nose. He tried “blowing” his a couple times, but no mucus came out. Later in the evening, he seemed fine. He hasn’t been acting sickly, and hasn’t had a runny nose. I’m wondering if he had a boogie and it finally came out.

Are cats’ noses built for boogies?

I have been sneezed on by a cat.

Yes, they have snot.

Well, I know they have snot. Boy, do I ever! Nothing like snuggling up with the kitty in your face, and after he looks into your eyes so dreamily… GA-SNORK!! Makes you want to scrub your face with Windex.

I think I should have elaborated on my question. People, who have hairs up their shnozzes, form firm, semi-dry boogies. Cats do produce snot, but can they get boogers?

yes, they can. and for some reason they don’t want your help with them.

eye crispies as well. they don’t want your help there either.

I have nothing sensible to add but old cats blow impressive spit bubbles.

My mother’s 16 yr old blew THE most impressive spit bubble I have ever seen tonight. She’s lacking a few teeth and serious purring brings on serious drool.

She has had coughing attacks from having grass stuck up her nose and she does get the sneezes but I have never seen a boogie.

Wise move, if your cat is secreting mucus in a visible manner, to get it to a vet and checked posthaste – there are a couple of potentially-fatal diseases for which that is the first symptom (as well as a number of other minor problems). But because of them, no vet is going to be upset if you have sniffly kitty checked out – he’s seen far too many cats die of acute respiratory disease to think you’re overreacting.

Do spit bubbles count as mucus?

Tough titty, I say to the kitty. You can’t walk around on my dinner table with that muck clotted up in there.

And, I could have sworn one of them farted the other day. I heard it, and we were the only ones in there, and I know it wasn’t me.

Ohhh yes, they fart. I’ve only cat-sat, not owned, and still I’ve managed to experience this. Catfarts are worse than dogfarts, if you’ll believe that’s possible.

Our Jakey had a repiratory infection picked up at the shelter where we got him. For his first six months with us he was a sneezy boogery bastard. He wanted to cuddle with my neck quite a bit, and I got some major blasts in my ears, eyes and hair.

He got big boogers in the corners of his nose and would get all mad when I tried to fix them.

My computer monitor has never been the same since he sneezed on it while chasing the mouse pointer.

My sister’s cat blew major snot rockets all her life. I’m talking big suckers that she’d get started coming out with her claw and then sneeze half a dozen times and blow it on to a wall or better yet the TV. It was a huge production.

My parents’ cat George is pretty old and gets boogers all the time.

You can tell which chair is Georgie’s favorite. It’s peppered with congealed cat snot.
