Can I get my username fixed? My email isn't working...

I realize this is an issue to be done over email, but I’m having problems sending emails off (as in, I can’t), so hopefully this catches an admin’s attention…

Anyway, apparently I’m a dunce and it’s taken me four years to realize I have a typo in my username. It should read Br’er Lappin (the apostrophe is in the wrong place, in case your attention to details is as poor as mine).

Can someone fix this for me, pretty please?

I’ve reported your post so that it comes to the attention of a mod, who hopefully might pass it on to an admin.

Can you still receive emails? If not, you probably ought to get that fixed, as I believe a working (receiving) email account is an absolute requirement. you could always sign up for a free Yahoo account and use that temporarily.

While we’re at it, “lappin” or “lapin?”

Just curious.

Um, do you need a new email account,is that it? That can be changed, fixed, whatever. Heck, I’d give you a gmail account . . . well I would if you could get email . . . well, damn.

Um, now that you mention it, that does appear to be spelled incorrectly. Perhaps I was really set on the idea of tiny pink rabbit tongues? Is this why people have suddenly stopped conversation and started snickering every time I’ve walked into the thread for the past few years?
Yes, um, that could probably be changed too. If you feel like it.

Thanks for putting the apostrophe in its place.

About the email – I can receive them just fine, yes. I send maybe 6 emails a year, so I’m currently doing this thing I do where I ignore the problem for an extended period of time and hope it will magically resolve itself. In the meantime, I have working backup emails, but they aren’t the ones I’m registered with here, and thus are not very helpful in this situation.

Just get your username changed to Toast Museum and be done with it.

What happens when you try to send an email? Do you get an error message?

If you’re using Outlook, is there an unsent message stuck in the outbox? If so, try deleting it.

As a band-aid fix, you can set up a free Hotmail account, then change your SDMB registered email to that new address. A short time later, you will receive an email containing instructions that you need to follow in order to reactivate your account–you will not be able to log in or post until you do so.

I get some kind of message about “relaying denied”. I googled for a fix, but the things suggested didn’t work, so I’ve kind of given up.

Actually, either it DID indeed magically fix itself, or it’s only certain domains, because I can email both my other email addresses at the moment.

Q.E.D., I was going to do that, but for some reason I was thinking I’d have to reply to a message of some sorts using the original address in order to change it. As you can see, I don’t put much thought into things. But thank you.

There you go.

We can also change your email address to one that works for you – you can too, just go into the User Control Panel and change it. You should get a confirmation email to complete the transaction.

This usually happens when your SMTP server (the machine to which your PC passes the mail for onward routing) detects that you’re trying to connect to it from outside of its own network, for example if your email account is one you created when you signed up for a dialup internet account with one ISP, but you now have broadband with another ISP.

Two (usually)easy ways to overcome this are:
-Use your own ISP’s SMTP server, if they offer one.
or
-Set your email client to formally log in at the SMTP server before attempting to send mail - in Outlook, this is achieved by clicking the checkbox labelled something like ‘My server requires authentication’ in the ‘Outgoing Mail Server’ section of the Servers tab of the account properties dialog (that sounds more complicated than it is).
