i created a fake username as a last resort

My real username is Rich Mann.

My subscription lapsed while I was without an internet connection.

When I was able to and I tried to re-subscribe I was asked for my password so I entered what I remembered as my password.

I got a message that this password was incorrect and was asked if I forgot my password and if so ‘click here’.

I clicked, input my email address and was told that a new password would be sent to me.

It wasn’t

I have tried numerous times since then. Still no response.

I have sent two emails to webmaster@straightdope.com, but to no avail.

I really want to post to the SDMB. I have no idea why I’m not being allowed to.

What email address are you checking for the password reset email? Are you sure you’re checking the same email account as that registered with your Rich Mann account (your sbcglobal.net email address)?

Send an email to Tubadiva. Her email address is tubadiva @ aol.com

She will fix this issue for you.

Okay, if your email address on your original screen name still works, I have had the password reminder emailed to you.

If this is somehow bouncing and not getting to your account (please check your spam filter if you have not already) I can work with you on resetting it manually.

And for sure it’s not going to work if you don’t resubscribe!

OK I checked my email and still nothing!

My spam filter is set to route spam to my bulk folder only, but there’s nothing there either. This is weird.

I’ll email you from my regular address to see if you get my email.

Sending email to me and communicating with the Straight Dope Message Board and its recovery system is not the same.

(We are close but not attached at the hip or any other place.)

I suspect your ISP is rejecting emails from the system before they even get to you. Sometimes ISPs see “webmaster@straightdope.com” as a spammer, which is incredibly annoying. If this is the case it’s a problem with your ISP and you’ll have to get them to take us off the bad boy list.

I can change your password manually if it comes to it, though I prefer to try to let the system do what it can do first. But it looks like this is not working.

Oh, and you’ll have to resubscribe. We’re not at the free place yet.

I do intend to re-subscibe. This all started when I tried to and was told my password was wrong. It is entirely possible that I changed my password and forgot about it, but to my recollection I have always had the same password for the SDMB.

I received your reply to my email just now. I don’t get why I can’t get mail from the webmaster–I got mail from that address in the past with no problem. And like I said, spam should be going to ‘bulk mail’–not being sent back. I’ll write my ISP and see what’s up.

Let’s go ahead and reset my password. I’ve really missed being able to post since I got internet access again.

I was starting to feel like I didn’t exist.

There must be something seriously wrong with sbcglobal.net–I wonder who else can’t get through to me or open emails from me. I think I’m going to change to a new ISP.
