Just a question:
Has there ever been a simulpost between Ed Zotti and Cecil Adams?

This thread must be close to setting a record for the longest hijack ever:D.
Cecil is Cecil and Ed is Ed.
I do believe Slug is Cecils warped alter ego though.
Shouldn’t you folks be out doing some Christmas shopping?
I bet if you all pitched in, it would be nothing to get me that Suzuki GS500.
Baritone saxophone.
Selmer would be nice, but I’ll settle for a Buescher.
Nuff said.
All you Cecil butt-kissers remind me of Horshack from Welcome Back Kotter…
“Mr Kottah! Mr Kottah! Pick me!”
You’re all just jealous because, while Cecil has addressed you on the boards, he hasn’t selected your question out of the zillions he gets every day and answered it PERSONALLY IN A COLUMN.
Read it and weep, my friends.
(plus, he didn’t know the answer and had to check into it!)

PS- If Uncle Cecil is reading this- I will buy a thousand copies if my column makes it into the next book. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

hah. Talk about a butt-kisser :).
Jill
ps - excellent question to Cecil, Zette.
Thanks Jill- I was glad that I didn’t end up on the receiving end of a classic Cecil “DUH!”
re: buttkissing
One does what one can.

I have devloped a theory. It goes like this:
[li]Cecil Adams having another username would not be a violation of anything. This board is not a democracy; therefore, rules made at a lower level are not binding at a higher level. Thus Cecil cannot be considered bound by rules made by TubaDiva and Ed Zotti.[/li]
[li]Ed is obviously a real person. I mean, who the hell would call himself Ed Zotti if he didn’t legally have to?[/li]
[li]Ed is obviosly notCecil. Having been stuck with the name Ed Zotti in the first place, Ed would absolutely not choose a silly name like Cecil Adams for an alternate identity. He would have gone for something much more elegant…and since MysterEcks was available when I registered, we can therefore take it as a given that Ed has no alternate usernames.[/li]
[li]BUT…Cecil Adams is most likely not the man’s real name. If your last name is Adams, you don’t name your kid Cecil–you go for something elegant like John or Henry. Cecil Adams? Preposterous.[/li]
[li]Since Cecil Adams can’t possibly be Cecil Adams, let’s look at his initials–CA. CA is the postal abbreviation for California–this could be a clue that the Perfect Master is actually from GranolaLand rather than from Chicago.[/li]
[li]We’ve been wondering why Cecil would bother speaking to SPOOFE. I mean, would youbother speaking to SPOOFE?[/li]
[li]“Spoofe” can be translated roughly as “fooled ya!”[/li]
[li]SPOOFE is from California.[/li]
[li]Has anybody ever seen Cecil and SPOOFE together? Of course not.[/li]
[li]THEREFORE…Cecil Adams is SPOOFE. Or maybe vice-versa.[/li]
See, guys? All it takes is the application of logic and a few beers to determine the truth.
Damn! You caught me!
Yeah, I caught you…but a few doses of antibiotics should clear it right up.
What did this thread used to be about, anyway?
About 3 pages, but if this keeps up, the sky is the limit.
Indeed, and doesn’t the exception prove the rule? I thought you were rather clear about that
Since this thread is not going to die and currently has no connection with the OP (thanks to some idiot whom I will not name :)), let me hijack it again. WTF, what is this banal expression, “the exception proves the rule.” I don’t know how that originated, but I can’t see any logic in that statement. Can someone explain to me how an exception can prove a rule?
That’s rich.
In a single thread, you get indignant because someone insulted you, then you hurl a personal insult.
Said insult was hurled because someone hijacked a thread, and in the very same post you hijack it again.
Go back and see who hijacked it the first time. It was meant as a joke, because it was I.
Amazing! The world’s longest hijack and the world’s shortest hijack, all in the same thread!
Wrong. Not the shortest hijack. I believe Cecil’s initial comments were correct. The “sense 1,” the legal sense is just another way of stating the legal maxim that that which is not excluded is included. “No parking except on Saturday & Sunday” is an examplet of that rule. It is, in no sense, the exception that proves the rule. In the first place, it is not a rule, but a law. In the second place, the legal maxim is as expressed above.
This thread went from imminent train wreck to brownnosing dreck … I’m not sure which saddened me more.
