Can I turn off the "translucent" display feature on my Mac and iPhone?

On both Safari and my iPhone i get what seems be a “translucent” display: the sign-in page for my phone, and the top menu bars on Safari, change colour depending on what’s behind them. Right now, the menu for Safari is showing mauve, because the blue “Straight Dope” banner is behind the menu.

I don’t like it.

Any way I can turn the translucent display off?

In OS X, there are settings to control that in System Preferences.
Look in Accessibility.

As for iOS - I’ve never looked.

Specifically the “reduce transparency” option in the “Display” tab of Accessibility.

On iOS, it’s Settings->General->Accessibility->Increase Contrast->Reduce Transparency.
