Can someone help me get the most out of my VX8300?

Like, how to make my own ringtones? How best to convert music files? How to format music files so they don’t show up as artist “Unknown” when the play? How to play songs by the album, not just alphabetically or randomly?

Anyone? Anyone?

I know nothink about zis phone, but these look like good pages to read:

There’s this, too: http://vx8300.blogspot.com/ . I haven’t had much luck with tinkering with mine, the debug menu simply doesn’t work, and my computer doesn’t like the format of the SD card.

Get bitpim The documentation says it works with the vx8300. The program lets you convert you music files into ring tones. You will need to get a USB cable for the phone. It will be about 20 to 30 bucks.

Thanks, all. (Sorry, I posted the OP and then was away from a computer for a couple days.)

Yes, but I can’t figure out how to install and use the ringtones. There is a folder calle d “my sounds,” but the sounds that are there, that came with the phone, are not in the menu of available ring tones, and I can find no reference to them in TFM. So there’s that.

Usually, the sounds that come with the phone are put somewhere separate. Do you have Verizon? When I try to do anything with my phone in bitpim, it says that the information is locked and I can’t even copy from the phone.

On the left side of the bitpim screen are a bunch of icons. Clock on the media icon. That opens a bunch of sub icons. I click on ringers and drag my mp3s onto bitpim. Bitpim then allows me to convert the file. I can choose bit rate and start and stop times in the ring tone. When the conversion is done I send ringers to the phone. Works great lasts a long time. I do however have a LG VX8700.

There is a support mail list with lots of activity and the author replies to people who are generally polite and give good info about exactly what they have tried.
