Shareware/Freeware for managing a cell phone?

I have a motorola razr and want to create and add ring tones. Is there a freeware program for Mac or Windows that does this?

I use Audacity to clip the mp3’s down to ringtone size in my razr , its a multiplatform software for windows and linux , no idea about mac.

I can convert the audio with no problem, but my question is more about how to get the ringtone onto my rzor

Audacity is also available for OSX.

I use BitPim to manage the data on my cellphone.

Been using it for a few years and have been completely happy with it.

Available for both Mac and Windows, you’ll just need to see if your phone is supported.

My Macbook talks directly to my Razr via bluetooth. I simply upload the sound files to it. I presume you could so something similar with a USB cable if your computer doesn’t have bluetooth.

There are many different phones called razr. Bitpim is an excellent program it will only work on CDMA phones that use Qualcomm chips (which is almost all CDMA phones). Bitpim may or may not work on a given CDMA phone depending on how much the phone manufacture has changed the Qualcomm software.

I personally use bitpim on a different phone and it works great for setting up ringtones not so great for other things. It is free software written by a few guys that don’t have huge amounts of time or the budget to test with all the phones out there. There is a fair amount of generally flakiness in the program and the features that work tend to vary widely from phone to phone.

You have a CDMA razr phone if you have Sprint or Verizon you probably don’t if you use another service.

Another recommendation for BitPim. Great program that works pretty well and is free.

So you have three options for uploading the tunes to the razr

Bitpim for CDMA
Bluetooth using windows , if its a GSM phone. Some of the CDMA providers use a version of JAVA called Brew which allows them to disable the file transfer system (OBEX), all you would do is to go into your bluetooth places.

The third option is to do a search on google for pkcommander , and all the assorted fun and games with that program.(GSM)

Edit , I forgot about one option thats shareware. Search google for mobtime , I got this for archiving text messages that I send and recieve , but it also allows for file transfers

Thank you all. I’m downloading BitPim now. I’ll let you know how it works out.

BitPim apparently does not recognize the razr. :frowning:

What cellphone service provider do you use?

T-Mobile.

I’ve resigned myself to e-mailing the mp3s to my cell phone. I think the sound quality suffers compared to the few ringtones I’ve purchased. Am I kidding myself? Or do I just need to save at a higher sampling rate?

Before I got my Mac with bluetooth, I’d upload my ringtones to a webpage then browse to the mp3 file with my phone and they’d download automatically. I’ve never bought a ringtone so I can’t say anything about that.

ETA: I also have a RAZR with T-Mobile. I used T zones to browse.
