Can we PLEASE get a Vomiting Smilie?

Hey, I happen to like the happy jewish fellow. Use him every chance I get, and some I manufacture. ;j ;j

The mods have been discussing this thread and everyone seems to be in favor of a smilie update. The timeline is presently unclear, but it seems to me that proposing new and replacement smilies could begin anytime, since the longer we spend on this phase, the more options people will have in an eventual vote. So if someone wants to start a new thread to propose new and replacement (non-animated) smilies, I’d say go for it.

But without ;j I couldn’t have made this post, which OneCentStamp later called “Best nonverbal reply ever”.

Sure. I did. I thought we were having an informal smiley vote. I know why the Wally smiley exists. I’m just not particularly fond of it.

I’ve never actually seen anyone use it that way. I’ve only seen it in the Pit, and used in a nasty way. I always thought people hesitated to use it in the other forums (fora?) because “putz” is a loaded term, which is why I thought it might be better used with the  smiley. Then people using it in the Pit could get properly peeved.

I, too, think the “putz” smiley should stay–BUT, I would suggest changing the code for it from “:wally:” to “:putz:”. Having something named in honor of a rapant plagiarist almost certainly who faked his own death is just bizarre and somewhat disturbing.

Errr…stick an “M” in the above post wherever it seems to make the most sense. :smack:

It’s impossible to watch too much anime. <nodnodnodnodnodnod>
On a more serious note, I really would like to see almost any version of Pukey. And I like Jayn_Newell’s suggested sweatdrop smiley.

Most of the time I’ve seen or used the :wally smiley it’s been directed at something the poster her/himself had done or said, so I don’t see the antagonism issue.

An annoying spelling for an annoying thing.

Not only does it look better, it actually follows the rules of the English language. “Smilie” is an unfinished-looking singular that comes backwards from the plural “Smilies”; I can’t think of any other “-ies” word that comes back to “ie” correctly.

Sorry for overly snarking you on the Wally thing. YMMV. Anyway, I never use it in tongue-in-cheek fashion because I feel I’d be misinterpreted–but there are times that I wish I could use it that way. Again, the damn thing is winking, fercrissakes! I don’t understand how anyone, let alone the whole board, can take it as an insult. Should I use this instead: ;););):wally;););)? Are seven winks better than one?

Started, HERE.

Already started, here.

But…but…!

It would be best to at least link to Giraffe’s post or add some sort of Moderator line of support to that thread so people know to take it seriously. My thread will vanish off of page 1 of IMHO rather quickly since it has been locked.

Well, I’ll tell you what. Everytime someone starts a thread in IMHO, I’ll lock it and link to mrrealtime’s thread here. Is that Moderator support enough? I’m sorry, Sage Rat, it’s too early to start voting. There will be voting, and it will be relatively soon, but not today, not next week.

Submissions are welcome; please, give us your submissions. Whoever misses the next mod meeting in the Fortress of [del]Margaritas[/del] Doom will be elected the mod in charge of submissions.

No no, that’s fine. I wasn’t talking about that. I was just pointing out that the current submissions thread could use some sort of intro that doesn’t require reading through to post 42 of this thread. People throw out random stuff they would like all the time in ATMB, so anyone who didn’t read through the “I want Pukinello” (this) thread will not think to take it seriously nor will they feel the urge to go off and create some nice smilies.

in charge of submissions…heh…can we get a dominatrix smiley?

Can’t do it right this second (had the week from hell at work), but I’ll get this organized and set up better over the next day or two, with the idea that y’all can start really getting to cases and discussing styles and voting by this weekend.

In the meantime y’all can carry on so we’ll have some idea of where this is headed.

I said this in the other thread but it bears repeating:

Here’s a list of the smileys used on my board. Nothing animated.

A few users are smile-happy, but for the most part messages stay uncluttered; threads don’t look teen board-ish.

Thanks for truncating my statement in the quote. What I said was:

Note that I gave a reason why I thought it was worse than useless. The fact that your opinion differs does not, I think, give reason for you to doubt that I had actually read the thread. However, let me assuage your doubts. I had read the thread, and have now re-read it.

I still dislike the Putz smiley and find it useless. Happy?

My bad. I did go overboard there and wasn’t seeing clearly.

I think it’s a shame that everyone views :wally so offensively; I think it should be able to be used tongue-in-cheek, and I hope the board culture changes in that direction.
