Can you add a 'show this post' function for the ignore list

When you have people on your ignore list for various reasons, but there is an intelligent discussion going on sometimes you want to read their post to get their input. However to do that you have to take them off the ignore list, then go into User CP and put them back on after seeing what they have to say.

Could a function be added where you could ‘see this post’ and just see that one post while the person is still on the ignore list?

As far as why you have someone on the ignore list but still want to see their posts, it is because you put them on ignore because of personal rudeness or something like that, but on some topics the person talks intelligently and formally due to education or experience in that field, so you want to see their opinion.

A function like this would be nice. I paid my $5 membership years ago, and I demand satisfaction.

There’s already a function like that. It says “view post” at the top right part of posts by the ignored user. Click that to see what they have to say, and then go on your merry way afterwards.

Cool. I didn’t know that. I’ve never had a doper on my ignore list, so I’ve never had the chance to see the ‘this person is on your ignore list’ bar I’ve seen on other MBs (MBs with people that give you a genuine reason to ignore them, such as spamming the same GIANT picture over and over and over again)

Cool, I don’t know how I never noticed that before!

This is what makes actually ignoring people not be a bad idea. It just helps to keep you from reading stuff you didn’t want read in the first place.

It’s like your own personal moderation tool.

I would like to be able to truly ignore some poster; that is, I don’t want to see their posts, I don’t want to see threads they start, I don’t want to see their name. I want them to vanish completely, like Shoeless Joe in the cornfield.

Can I do that? Can vBulletin?

I wouldn’t hold my breath on that being implemented here. Seems like an unsupported hack is the only way to do it, though it seems like only a little bit of code change is required*. This thread I found on the vB forum also mentions how to disable the “this guy is on ignore” placeholder as well:

*eta: and it would be global, istm, so it wouldn’t be an option for just some posters to do it.

Maybe that one fellow who wrote that monkeywrench script could write an “expunge this poster from my online existence” function.

That would be wierdaaron, and from what little I understand of Greasemonkey, it’s probably a fairly easy thing for him to add. I think someone’s already suggested it over in that thread.

Me! I’m a fanatic of the feature. I have a bit of a temper problem online, and this feature has helped me tremendously.

What I would like is Reverse Ignore to keep certain nags from reading my posts. I’m tired of them following me around just to keep their one-sided religious feud going.
