Can you freeze Hostess fruit pies?

The grocery had 10 for $10 on Hostess products. I was weak and bought 4 cherry, 4 apple fruit pies, and 2 Sno Ball.

I’ve frozen Lil Debbie snacks before with good results. But, those are just cake or cookie bakery items. I’ve never tried, but I’m pretty sure the Sno Ball’s will freeze up and thaw perfectly fresh.

I’ve never tried to freeze a fried fruit pie. Google isn’t encouraging. I’m just not sure how the fruit filling and crust would respond to freezing/thawing.

Anyone tried this or know someone that has?

I’m a little leery of keeping out on the shelf too long. Seems like that sticky, fruit filling would be a prime mold candidate.

Freeze five, leave five out; eat them alternately, post results.

I can’t see an obvious problem, except that of keeping them palatable after thawing. I’d suggest letting one thaw naturally, then reheating it in a toaster oven (or a regular oven) for maybe 5-10 minutes @ 300F.

Then break it up into a bowl and top it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

ETA: Are Hostess fruit pies actually deep-fried? I thought they were baked, then glazed.

Back in the days when we got them from day-old bread stores for 15 cents each, we froze them all the time. They thawed out just fine unopened. They were also awesome frozen in the hot, unairconditioned summer!!

Freeze a few of the lemon fruit pies. Nirvana.

When I was growing up i had no idea they came unfrozen. That was just how we always ate them. And they were tasty. My faves were the lemon and cherry. Seriously, I remember my shock when i had to by them myself and they weren’t in the frozen section…

Imagining myself as the cashier trying to understand why there’s a crazy lady in frozen foods talking to herself about Hostess fruit pies…

My grandparents always froze them as well. There’s no reason you can’t. And you don’t have to let them thaw out slowly, either: the microwave is fine.

Well, I’m convinced. I’m heading to the freezer.

I prefer to eat only one fruit pie a week. They would have ruined on the shelf if I didn’t freeze them.

They’re really too sweet for my adult taste. Nostalgia is a powerful thing. I can remember my grandmother buying Sno Balls 40 years ago. She loved them just as much as me. Cherry has always been my favorite fruit pie. Apple is 2nd choice. Never liked peach.

I don’t mind snacking on one a week. That’s not excessive.
