My Google-Fu is weak on this one.
In the video for Joe Jackson’s Steppin’ Out, who is the actress that plays the maid who is fantasizing about the night on the town? She has always looked familiar, but I cannot put a name with the face.

Yeah, no clue but she looks familiar. I thought it might be the older, marrying sister from Sixteen Candles, but I don’t think it’s her.
Could be Rebecca Staab. The age would be about right.
The guy looks rather like Jeremy Irons.
…ha! We now have Clothahump’s personal music selection to critique! The Blue Man Group do Baba O’Riley? Awesome! :: starts listening to playlist ::
My first guess was Arleen Sorkin, but I think that’s just because she played a maid in the sitcom Duet.
Lindsay Crouse, b. 1948? She would have been 34 in 1982. Here she is in an episode of Columbo seven years later:

Enjoy!
My Google Fu failed me as well. But the actress bears a resemblance to Cynthia Rhodes, who was 26 in 1982.
All of these ladies bear a strong resemblance, but I don’t think we’ve found her yet.
Ah, well…perhaps some things are not meant to be known.
I’m standing by my guess until I hear otherwise.
If the answer is not on the internet, we could always do a little independent research; contact someone involved with the video and ask.
So… when the wealthy woman leaves, does the give the maid instructions to let the piano player out, like a cat?
It’s definitely neither Lindsay Crouse nor Cynthia Rhodes; I remember both of them clearly.
These kind of things bug me, so I sent an email to Joe Jackson’s management company (it was the only contact I could find). I’m not hopeful, but I’ll report back if I get a reply.
I just have to mention here that I had a different Joe Jackson question years ago about a clip of him playing in a Michelob commercial - a great cover of a song that he had done. Didn’t find it for years, but it did turn up: Obscure Joe Jackson Cover Song - Cafe Society - Straight Dope Message Board
Hey **Troutman **- how about this one? I tried to ID a model used in an Amazon ad and realized how surprisingly impossible it appeared to be able to get a name: Simple, but Tough: Finding the Name of a Model in an Amazon ad - Cafe Society - Straight Dope Message Board
I’m gonna need your phone number so when my boss asks me why I’m not getting any work done, I can point him toward you.
I heard back from Joe’s management company, and they don’t know who she is. Sorry, Clothahump, it appears your crush will go unrequited.
Sure. It’s 867-5309!
I am surprised in this Age of Surveillance we live in today, how some things are still not findable. I was mentioning in a music thread that there is a documentary on the cult, influential powerpop band Big Star - there appears to be no live footage of them and no interview footage or even many photos of Chris Bell, one of the main creative forces behind the first album. Weird.
It’s not like the Dope to give up so easily. I’ve put out a couple inquiries.
