Canada and CERB

Good day,

I am in the process of applying for the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) online and partway through the application process I’ve been led into an Employment Insurance (EI) site, which is both confusing and concerning to me.

Are any other Canadian Dopers applying for this and having the same experience? If CERB is simply a part of EI and this is normal I would like to know. If, however, they’re completely different programs and I’m being diverted into EI and it’s the wrong program I would definitely like to know that as well.

Obviously need answer fairly quickly:) and thanks

I applied through the Canada Revenue site and I didn’t get routed to EI. I set up “my account” with CR a while back, login through my bank portal. How did you login to Canada Revenue?

I was laid off on the 20th of March.

I applied for EI on the 21st of March, four days before they even announced the CERB, so I just got the normal EI application. I was already set up with direct deposit for EI payments to one bank account, from the last time I was on EI, so that wasn’t a problem. And my CRA account was also set up for direct deposit to a different bank account, which is where I got my GST refund and tax refund (and paycheque from the job I just got laid off from) deposited.

Which explains my surprise when I checked the first account on Wednesday afternoon, for the first time in a while, to find that $2000 had been deposited in it! I had forgotten that EI payments went to the first account and not the second. And not the expected amount for a week of EI! They had said that anyone applying for EI after the 15th of March would be automatically set up as if they were applying for the CERB as well.

Hi folks, after posting this I noticed that the URL has CERB as a sub-directory to EI. At any rate I’ll spend Tuesday phoning to confirm.
