Happy Canada Day!
And who better than Ian Tyson to open the day.
Nvmind, sigh…
I was a big fan of Ian & Sylvia back in my folkie days of the 60s. “Four Strong Winds” is an all-time favorite still.
And of course, we can’t leave out Joni Mitchell.
All great songs. But Canada so often reduces itself to a few dated memes and stereotypes, and we have progressed beyond hockey and Horton’s.
And we beat ourselves up relentlessly. All I heard yesterday was “Reconciliation Day” and “Humiliation Day”
Not at my house. I am proud to be Canadian. I support reasonable efforts at reconciliation but feel these are compatible with celebrating the founding of my country. Canada generally makes the world a better place.
