Happy Canada Day!

The long weekend officially begins (for me) in 1 hour and 38 minutes. Happy Canada Day!

I will celebrate nationhood by demonstrating the colours of our national flag using my hair and sunburn down at the ol’ naked beach. I will drink beer (homebrew), mumble the words to ‘O Canada’ in both official languages, and watch Rick Mercer make fun of all Yanks by watching “Talking to Americans” on July 1.

Canada rocks, eh.

All us Canucks (although some don’t like the term) appreciate you planting your birthday best wishes in this thread!

How 'bout if I celebrate by drinking Labatt Blue tonight?

I like Canada. Hell, I almost live there (less than 100 miles).

  • Your national anthem is pretty.

  • I used to like SCTV, and The Kids in the Hall.

  • Your hockey coverage could teach any American network a thing or 20. (I’m still lamenting the loss of HNIC about 15 years after CBC departed from my cable slate.)

So that’s why I’m seeing lots of Ontario plates today. Celebrate Canada Day by spending your money in Florida.

I have enough money to buy a six pack of Moosehead. And I got the shortwave fixed so I can listen to CBC again! Maybe I’ll go over to EPCOT and sit through O Canada! a few times.

or, screech-owl, you could just move here.
The girl here are the prettiest, you can listen to CBC am, fm, stereo, English & French, 24 hours a day!
Unlimited supply of Canadian beer!
(and we’re all very polite).

Ummm screech-owl IS a girl ginger…oh well she could move up here…the more the merrier…

Keith

screech-owl, you can always check out http://www.cbc.ca
They have one of the best media websites out there… even if they are the competition.

Mumble, nothing! Me, I prefer to paint my entire body with maple leaves, carry around my six-foot flag all day and scream at the top of the lungs. Slogans like 'THE WORLD NEEDS MORE CANADA!" and things like that.

And this is when I’m at work!

Oh, and drink lots of Molson Canadian.

CANADA! WOO!

Soon, Canada Day will be a day of celebration for all.

Canadian World Domination

Barbarian - already got the website bookmarked and I get the overnight digest.

Okay, I have my Stan Rodgers, Gordon Lightfoot, Bare Naked Ladies and Glenn Gould (to name a few) tapes set for Monday at work. Any other music suggestions?

Theoretically.

Happy Canada Day from one of your Aussie brothers!

You guys, us blokes, and the Kiwis should stick together! After all, we’re just so nice/

Well, The Tragically Hip, of course, and Neil Young.

Happy Canada Day.

You MUST invest in a very hard to find (in the US) “Oh What A Feeling” Volumes 1 & 2. They are 4-cd sets of all Canadian music. If you drive to Orlando and beat up my friend Matt, he’ll give up his copy. You’d have to take a big stick, though, 'cause he’s a monster-sized man. Or just give him a box of Shreddies. Your call.

You also need a Canadian flag, full-sized, with which to wrap your body in.
24 of Molson Dry. Not Canadian, but DRY.
Poutine
serviettes
a toque to wrap around your beer to keep it cool

eunoia, I’m keeping track of those smilies!

screech, sorry. I had a brain-fart. I knew you’re a girl.

For the French part of Canadian music, you will require somethings by Félix Leclerc, Gilles Vigneault, Robert Charlebois, Beau Dommage, Harmonium, Plume Latraverse (warning French profanities), Offenbach (they ROCK !). That should make a good start. Ooops, I almost forgot Ville-Émard Blues band and Manège (great jazz).

What else, I know I’m forgetting something, what is it <scritch, scritch, scritch…>

Oh Yea, Happy Canada Day to you all ! (although here in Québec, it is better known as the feast of St. Moving, patron saint of U-Hauls).

Dick

Well, I’m pleased to report that the mutual snottiness factor over the St-Jean-Baptiste/Canada Day marching season has been extremely low in Montreal this year. Guy Bouthillier said something smarmy, and the Commission des normes du travail called it the “July 1 weekend”, but in general everyone was much more civilized to everyone else than I can remember them having been in a long time.

With the exception of the MUC police beating shit out of revellers in Mont-Royal Park. Gotta justify that double overtime!

Anyway, joyeuse fête du Canada. I’ll play “Northwest Passage” and read “Le Vaisseau d’or”.

:: … punishes himself for not mentioning the infinitely awesome Tragically Hip in his initial “I like Canada” comments … ::

I am looking forward to a glorious long weekend despite the fact I am working on Monday.

Tomorrow the Special Olympics Provincial Games start and I will be there cheering on the team.

Sunday there will be a massive fireworks display down at the Legislature.

Colin James and Wide Mouth Mason will be rocking Edmonton with a free concert.

Looks like it’s going to be a blast.

There’s the difference between the Capital and Canmore.

We get the Dayglo Abortions.

is going to the concert after work Yes that’s right… I have to work on Canada day. Dang it sighs

Actually, this is my first Canada Day as an actual Canadian citizen, so I intend to revel a little harder this year. And my six-year-old sons are so psyched about the fireworks (YIKES!).

Happy Canada Day, folks.
