Happy Canada Day!

Cerowyn - welcome aboard! Have a great Canada Day!

Additions to the music lists: the Arrogant Worms (from Kingston, Ontario) and Connie Kaldor (from Saskatchewan).

'Cause carrot juice is murder…

HAPPY CANADA DAY!!

Happy Canada Day to all my favorite Canadians. And there are many. And I am only 30 miles from BC, so I feel sort of like an honorary Canadian. Which makes me happy.

So…Happy Canada Day to me, too!

Scotti

Happy Canada Day, kids! I’m officially tipsy, I hope you don’t mind. (No, don’t blame it patriotism!)

I thought he was patron saint of lost box tape.

Anyhoo, Happy C-Day to all hosers and wannabees with a beer in their hands (yep, honourary Canuck status is that easy!). A special “cheers” to Cerowyn!

A Canadian beer, to be precise.

Same here, welcome aboard !!

Even Google is celebrating.

Big Sugar, Moist, Our Lady Peace and I Mother Earth… is it hard to tell I used to be into Alternative stuff?

Nobody mentioned Stompin’ Tom Connors?

And, Scotticher, you can be a Canadian anytime!

We celebrated Canada Day in Washington DC today…

A Canadian friend of mine had asked that we go past the embassy so she could see all the flags. It was obvious they were setting up for a big party. There seemed to be a line of people being admitted so she checked it out, the party was for Canadian citizens with proof of citizenship only, but they said it was ok for her to bring “guests”. So we went back to the car and got her birth certificate, and they let the rest of us in (two Americans and a Swiss national who is in Washington for the summer while she works at IMF).

They had a great party: free burgers and hot dogs, Canadian water, cola, wine and beer. Everyone came dressed in red and white, Ambassador Kergin (very relaxed looking in a red polo shirt and khakis) gave a speech in English and French and we all sang O Canada (in English). The RCMP were there as well, in full dress uniform, on horses they borrowed from the US Park Police.

We had a great time.

Hope you’re having a great Canada Day as well!

And to the Canadian taxpayers who fed me lunch today, Merci!

You’re welcome, Tazma. Anytime!

So, I’m off to watch Talking to Americans.

And Tazma, glad to see our tax dollars are spent on a good cause

We had perfect weather for Canada Day here in Calgary - that’s almost unheard of! Sunny but not too hot, not too much wind, no late day showers, no tornadoes, no hailstorms. Beautiful.

(Good idea, LoadedDog. Someday us ‘nice’ nations can band together and jam niceness down the throats of the rest of the world.:D)

(Add to list of Canadian music worth having - Blue Rodeo, Jeff Healey, Tom Cochrane with or without Red Rider, David Wilcox, Jann Arden, Ivana Santilli, The Pursuit of Happiness, The Nylons, Sarah MacLachlan, Amanda Marshall, and Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie - check out The Toronto Song:).

The American girl known to her classmates as “The Angry Canadian” celebrates Canada Day:

  1. Music. The Tragically Hip, Blinker the Star, Barenaked Ladies, Paul Brandt, Our Lady Peace, even Bryan Adams and Shania Twain.
  2. Drinkage. I’d be tossing back the Molsons and Labatts if I were in Quebec, but I’m not. I’m downing strawberry-melon Clearly Canadians.
  3. The same level of obnoxiousness I apply to all my life. I’ve voicemailed all my friends and shouted barely intelligible high-speed lists of Canadian things to be proud of. I’m wearing my Team Player’s Canadian Racing cap and my t-shirt with the maple leaf on it. And I’m eating the last box of Smarties. I’ve been saving these Smarties for weeks.

Happy Canada Day to all of you!

Thanks Northern Piper, eunoia and detop. It was really about time I got my citizenship (I’m British by birth)… I’ve been more “Canadian” than most Canadians for a long time.

So, did everyone have a good day? The weather was cool here in Toronto, but we had some sun (I was the only one to brave the pool, though). At least the rain held off until we were almost finished with the fireworks.

An absolutely beautiful time in Banff for the celebrations. A pipe band, parade, concert in the park, and fireworks. The drive home to Canmore resembled the 401 - I’m not kidding - only there were people actually doing the speed limit.

I had a couple from Wisconsin on my right, and a group of Japanese tourists behind us. The Americans were in absolute awe of how we celebrate - very low key, nobody calling anyone down, nobody drunk and disorderly.

Ahhh Canada! Happy birthday! You don’t look a day over 133!

Okay, I’m confused. Y’all say you celebrated Canada Day yesterday, the 1st. I am looking at my calendar - Monday, July 2, Canada Day.

Is it on the 1st or the 2nd? Is this a defective calendar, or is it one of those ‘Movable Holidays’, like our President’s Day?

That’s okay, though. I have enough Glenn Gould to last me a week.

Not moveable. It’s July 1, which was sunday. We have today off (most of us) in lieu of the sunday which we didn’t work anyway.

Now that I have returned and recovered, I shall regale you all with my tale.

So I had to work yesterday morning, but I got off by 2:00. Went to the SO’s house to stock up the picnic basket (Carrying my six-foot flag all the while), and we set off for Ashbridges Bay. On the subway ride down, we took out the red marker and began decorating me. I had ‘I AM CANADIAN’ on my left shoulder, ‘THE WORLD NEEDS MORE CANADA’ all the way down my right arm, and various maple leaves and flags all over the place. I was wearing my Maple Leaf boxers, and a shirt which said "Canada kicks ass!’, with a maple leaf on the back. Still carrying the six-foot flag. I got a lot of people honking and screaming various things about Canada as I walked around. Once we were at the beach, I lost the shirt and got ‘Made in Canada’ on my back and ‘Canada… EH?!’ on my chest. Along the way, I picked up various free Canadian things that were being handed out, including a balloon, beach ball, ‘Happy Canada Day!’ banner, four small flags, and some kaliedoscopic Canada day glasses to watch the fireworks through. We then reveled on the beach until fireworks at 10, and then it was off to home.

Tonight I’m going to a BBQ and then out drinking, and I’ll still be carrying various flags.

I LOVE MY COUNTRY! YOU PEOPLE RULE!

I was low key. Imitated a flag by wearing a red shirt, and forcing other patrons of Wreck Beach to observe my SPF 45 covered body. The pubes make a nice maple leaf. (what, you’ve never heard of wreck beach? go here http://www.wreckbeach.org )

Shame about Edmonton.
