And Happy First Day of the Financial Year to a lot of the rest of us!
Hot dogs and candy at the Canada Day celebrations at the waterfront, where, as happens every year, we’ll watch scores of new citizens take their oath of citizenship. That’s as Canadian as it gets.
To all my Canadian Doper friends…
HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!
I’ll have to settle for “wave to the people on the other side of the Niagara River”, because traffic back and forth was getting bad today. But perhaps this weekend we’ll celebrate alongside thousands of Canadians in the time-hono(u)red tradition of “going to IKEA to buy flat-pack furniture.”
Unfortunately I’m at work and about as far away from my home in Vancouver as is possible while still staying in Canada, or I’d take you out for a beer, fellow immigrant from down south. Maybe in August?
Boo. I’m at work.
My regular day off work. Many celebrations slated to happen here in Winnipeg, from the aforementioned festivities at the Mint (a five minute drive away), to happenings at The Forks (more like ten minutes), to a Big Blowout at Assiniboine Park (20+ minutes).
The weather people are forecasting 27C weather with some rain some time soon. It just seems like a good day to waste time on the 'puter and then doing some housework. Two weeks til holiday time!

Sounds good to me! I keep getting warnings that Vancouver is like a ghost town in August, with all the natives fleeing to their cabins in the hinterland, but I suspect they still sell beer (now with HST!*).
*Actually lowers the price on alcohol by a fraction.
We’re going to the park to meet some other moms and kidlets for play and a picnic. The girls (almost 4) will hopefully play, and the boys (almost 1) will sit on a blanket and grunt, hurr and bang stuff
To our neighbors to the north …
Happy Canada Day, eh!
Oh, and forgot one notable event that is always part of our Canada Day: the 21 gun salute in front of the Lege at noon - we won’t be going, but it always rattles our windows, since we live close to Wascana.
I can’t believe it took 30 posts to get the first “eh” in. Now all we need is backbacon and beer before page two for a trifecta.
Enjoy your back bacon and beer, eh?
Watching our national anthem was lovely; I would love to see our athletes and fans singing like the Mexicans do for their anthem - wow! They’re so passionate about it!
Canada has a lovely anthem. Much better than ours. (We really should have gone for America The Beautiful.)
I thought we would be better off with The Maple Leaf Forever, actually.
Well, I guess we know the answer to that now, eh?! :smack:
At least it worked out okay… eventually.
Leads to an interesting trivia question: has any CFL team in history ever had too-many-men penalties called against them in consecutive games before now?
