CanaDopers: What are your May Two-Four Weekend plans?

Nothing special here. Taking the family to my parents’ cottage on a river in the Middle of Nowhere, Ontario. There doesn’t seem to be a fire ban in our area as yet, so hopefully we’ll be able to have a campfire or two, get drunk and break out the guitars.

Oh, and fireworks as well.

Working around the house; that’s about it. I have a pool I need to get open, finally.

Just puttering around the house. I intend to do more gardening, but the weather might not co-operate - it might rain all weekend. Or snow.

My wife shares a birthday with Queen Vicky*, this year the long weekend happens to coincide with her birthday.

The kids want to go camping, so later today we’ll be headed to an overcrowded provincial park (don’t worry, I already booked the site online) and stay there for the weekend, returning on her birthday.

*the wife of a friend of mine has a birthday May 23. He likes to say that she’s “one day older than Queen Victoria”. The look she gives him is priceless.

Just an FYI for you camping fools. The emerald ash borer is preventing the transportation of firewood, at least in Ontario; is it Canada-wide?

I’ll probably spend some time in the office. (Yeah, boring old me.) But I’ve got a few research projects I’m working on, and getting them done this past week has been frustrating because we seemed to have more than the usual number of unexpected interruptions. So, heading in on the weekend is not necessarily a bad thing, as I should be able to complete one, if not two, projects.

Other than that, things depend on the weather. Maybe some golf, maybe head out to one of the mountain parks, maybe some gardening.

No real plans as yet. I’m tempted to head down to my parent’s place tomorrow to enjoy the sun on their porch (I know the pool is open, but not yet heated, unfortunately). Or I’ll stay in my pyjamas all day and bum around the house. Either way, I’m watching the Habs game.

Then Sunday a friend of mine might come down from Ottawa to spend a day or two. Her plans are still up in the air due to work things she needs to get done, but she’s pretty sure she’ll make it down eventually!

My husband has a work pager because his project managers are too chickenshit to tell their clients that Monday is a holiday. He gets paid to have it, and we are hoping he won’t actually have to do any work. I’ll also watch the Habs game on Monday.

And physiotherapy exercises. Damn back needs to heal somehow.

Like many others, I will be put-put-put-puttering around the house.

PiperCub’s second birthday! (falls on May 24, but we’ll have a little party for him on Sunday.) Looking at him, I can’t believe it’s been two years already.

On Monday, likely go out to the lake for the day, check out the cottage, and hang out.
