Yay! For the first time since the weekend of Sept. 22-23, I have exactly zero plans for the weekend. I’m not going anywhere (Oklahoma City, NYC); having people over; meeting anyone for a meal, movie, concert, or museum trip; hanging out with anyone in from out of town, etc. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.
I got a group of Boy Scouts to take camping. This is the special weekend the adults are doing all the cooking. Two of the five “adults” who volunteered to camp have backed out in the last tree hours. Three adults cooking 5 meals for 25 boys – oughta be a hoot.
I’ll be holding down the bottom end of a jam session at a party out in the sticks on Saturday night, transforming an atonal cacophony into music with structure and groove. I appear to be the most skilled bass player they know, and they’re happy when I show up. Because once they have a driver, it sounds pretty good.
I’ll think of you (ChiefScott) while I’m lounging on the sofa, trying to decide on the best possible combination of reading, watching a movie, and napping.
ETA: Oh, and knitting. And playing with the kittens.
The house is on the market, so I tidy a bit every day. Sunday we have an open house scheduled, so I had planned to do more cleaning Saturday, along with raking the front and back yards. We raked last weekend and entirely filled eight of those tall paper leaf bags. Both yards look like nothing was done.
But I just got a call that someone wants to show the house tomorrow from 10 AM to noon. So now I will have to really hustle to get the vacuuming etc done and at least the front yard raked by then.
Contrary Don’t forget to bake something. It makes the house smell homey and inviting. Don’t burn it.
My weekend starts at 8:01AM Saturday. It ends at 11:59PM Sunday.
It’s short. But, it’s for good reason. My company actually decided to be nice to the third shift peons this Thanksgiving. By having us come in on Sunday, instead of Monday, we wont be getting out of work on Thanksgiving morning. We will acutally have 5 days off for the holiday, when everyone else only gets 4. I can handle a 1 day weekend for results like that.
Short though it is, it will still be relaxing. I plan to spend Saturday in my room, reading at least 2 books and Saturday night (when all the housemates are asleep) playing WoW. Then I’ll spend the wee hours of Sunday morning reading and Sunday afternoon sleeping. I’ll be hiding in my room as much as possible since my there will be 2 other adults, 2 teenagers, one 9 year old, and one 7 year old - in the house with me. The “house” is a 3 bedroom trailer. It will be relaxing, but it wont be quiet. I think I’ll be blasting Enya directly into my eardrums all weekend. Or maybe Disturbed.
I’m moving. We’re busting ass tomorrow and getting a bunch of small stuff done and the movers come for the furniture sunday. I wish I could just do nothing.
Oh I do. I bake oatmeal cookies every Sunday morning we have an open house scheduled. Although this time I think I’ll try the crock pot cake trick instead. Since it takes hours to cook, the house should smell like a cake is baking all day long.
I need to check online to make sure my new crock pot will do this too; my previous crock pot was smaller so I need to make sure the times work.
I’m camping with my husband and oldest son and a few friends. Hoping the skies clear up to catch a little of the Leonids. Leaving the campground for a few hours tomorrow to head to SFO to pick up my youngest son who will be spending a little over a week with us for Thanksgiving. Making a pit stop in San Rafael on the way back up to pick up some pasteles at one of the only Puerto Rican places in this area that I know of. Then back home on Sunday to vacuum and dust and sweep and mop and prepare for dinner on Thursday.
Twickster, of course you’re doing something this weekend! You’re having a vicarious free weekend for the rest of us. And since we’re millions strong, it’ll be a hell of a burden. And moreover, we’ll need to be reassured afterward that it was just as relaxing as it was supposed to be. Because otherwise we’ll be bummed, you see.
For people who work a 40 hour, 5 consecutive day work week, the weekend is technically 24 hours one day, 24 hours the second day, plus the extra time after work the day the week ends, and the time before the week starts.
Assume you have a normal 9-5 job. You get out of work at 5pm Friday and you’re off the rest of Friday, all of Saturday and all of Sunday and go back at 9am Monday. So, your weekend is actually 64 hours.
It works this way for me: I get out of work at 8am Saturday. I have the rest of the day Saturday (16 hours) off, all day Sunday (24 hours) and all day Monday(24 hours). I have to be back at work at midnight Monday (my first actual day of the work week is Tuesday morning). This week, I get out at 8AM Saturday (16 hours) and I have the rest of that day and all day Sunday (24 hours), having to be back at Midnight Sunday (total of 40 hours) - so the first day of my week will start on Monday morning.
