CandidGamera's Comic Book Trivia

#1 The Trapster, originally named Paste Pot Pete.

#2 I think you mean Mad Cap. He does wield a bubble gun and induce wierdness. But, the gun is just a toy. It has no power. Meeting his gaze doesn’t induce euphoria but hallucinations and/or random behavior. In the She Hulk, Mad Cap was indeed silly (Shulkie ended up juggling elephants and eating trash.). In Captain America, he was silly but possibly dangerous(He went around urging folks to break their routines by committing crimes). In Ghost Rider, he was potentially lethal (He used his power on a cop. The cop immediately shot several people. Another victim pierced his own nose, by ramming a pen through it.)

#3-Dunno. Didn’t read it

#4- Nitpick, according to several versions of the Official Handbook To The Marvel Universe, Nightcrawler cannot ‘stick’ to walls. The configuration of his fingers and toes gives him superior gripping strength. He cannot crawl across a ceiling as Spidey can.
I think you’re referring to his ability to blend into the shadows and emerge dramatically. This isn’t really a power. Like his skill at gymnastics (In one of the Marvel Swimsuit Specials, Kurt takes the gold in the superhuman olympics. The judges decided that though Spidey might have more raw ability, he lacked training or discipline.) it’s a learned skill.

#5 Cannonball

#6- Not a clue

#7- I can’t recall.

#8- WAG Zero Hour?

#9- The Dominators?

#10-Dunno

1.) Name the glue-gun-toting nemesis of the Fantastic Four, who occasionally fights other Marvel heroes as well.
Paste Pot Pete

4.) Nightcrawler is extremely agile, can stick to walls, has a prehensile tail, and can teleport. What’s his other mutation, apart from his appearance?
He’s invisible in shadows.

5.) What was Doug Ramsey’s codename while a member of the New Mutants?
Cannonball

6.) Who gave Impulse (now Kid Flash) his original costumed-identity name?
Wally West, in a fit of pique.

7.) Plastic Man, in addition to being a member of the Justice League, and the All-Star Squadron, was an agent of which government agency?
The FBI (?)

I’m a Marvel fan, so I won’t be able to give you any answers to DC questions.

Originally, he was “Paste-Pot Pete.” What a goofy name! He later changed it to “The Trapster.” Last time I saw him, he was fighting Captain America.

It’s Madcap. He even showed up in an issue of Power Pack.

Geez! I was gonna say the blue fur and the fingers/toes thing, but that fall under his appearance. I give!

Cypher

Plastic Man worked for the DEO (Department of Extranormal Operations)

The female Guardians were Zamarons (maybe spelled Zamorans).

#1 Correct. #2 Correct, I do indeed mean Madcap, though the few appearances of him I have implied that the gun was the source of the strange behavior, and everybody got giddy. #4 Well, then sources disagree. And it is indeed a power. Issues of X-Men established that he actually turns nearly invisible in shadows, and it was, in fact, his tertiary mutation. #5 - No. #9 - No. The Dominators are corrupted descendants of Guardians, not their female counterparts.

#1 Correct. #4 Correct. #5 No - Cannonball is Sam Guthrie. #6 While Wally may wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment behind the nickname, the idea originated with another DC character. #7 Correct.

Vlad Dracul : As far as I am aware, Plas has never worked for the DEO, but he was an FBI Agent during the World War II era. The female Guardians are indeed Zamarons.

psiekier : #1, #2, #5 Correct. #4 is the Shadow-blending ability discussed previously.

A few more questions :

#11) Green Lantern Hal Jordan had, at one time, a tiny alien companion that would accompany him into space. Name it.

#12) Hal also typically left a certain vehicle cloaked and invisible, orbiting the Earth. What was it?

#13) What binding spell used by Dr. Strange shares the source of its power with the Juggernaut?

#14) What anthropomorphic-animal-incarnation of Ghost Rider would Peter Porker, the Amazing Spider-Ham, be likely to encounter?

#15) What was Barry Allen, AKA the Flash, doing when Wally West was struck by lightning-charged chemicals, giving him the same superspeed powers as his mentor?

#16) Why is the mercenary Deadpool disfigured?

#17) After travelling through the Siege Perilous and, in essence, being reincarnated, where did the X-Man Rogue reappear on Earth?

#18) The Golden Age Superman was eventually made the editor of which newspaper?

#19) What caused Green Arrow’s sidekick Speedy to go into temporary retirement?

#20) According to current DC continuity, who were the first two masked vigilantes to make their presence known?

Had to look up Itty. Had a clear mental image of the little guy (?), but could not recall the name. I kept thinking “Proty?” for obvious reasons.

Hal Jordan left his 18-wheeler in space while on duty. He was a trucker for a while.

Barry Allen was basically showing off for the Flash-obsessed Wally. Dressed up in costume and doing the “uncle Barry lets me use his lab” routine.

Madcap- The listing of him an old Official Handbook agrees with my description. In an issue of Captain America, Nomad is able to snatch the gun. At that point Madcap reveals that the gun is just a prop. It’s also worth noting Madcap’s decidely unsilly origin. He was a Fundy Christian riding with his friends and family in a bus headed for Bible camp. There was an accident. Every other passenger on the bus was killed. But the accident had activated Madcap’s mutant powers. He was unable to feel pain, and healed any injury at a speed that put Wolverine to shame. Madcap took the whole thing as proof that there was no God. He stole a harlequin costume and a toy gun and went out to convince people that life is meaningless and that the universe is governed by randomness.

Nightcrawler-Can you remember which issues of what X title stated this? Ultimate X-Men takes place in another continuity. Another X book is written by a guy who turned the Beast into the Lion King and decided that Emma Frost is able to transform into a diamond. I refuse to accept as cannon any retconn written by that guy on the grounds that he’s a moron.
#16 His entire body is now composed of cancer cells?

#17 The Savage Land?

Brainiac4 : #11, #13, #19 correct.

Vlad Dracul #12 correct. #15 … correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe Wally was aware of Barry’s dual identity at that point.

DocCathode - I never saw Madcap’s appearance in Captain America; the few times I have seen him, they made no mention whether or not the gun was necessary. I don’t disbelieve you, I’m just explaining. As for Nightcrawler, it was a core X-Boox … Uncanny or regular X-Men IIRC. It may be during Grant Morrison’s run, however … so you’re welcome to disregard it., if you like. I don’t have my X-collection entirely handy, and don’t think I’d want to dig through them all for the reference. Maybe later when I have more free time. #16 - More or less… I haven’t heard them described as cancer cells per se, but his cellular make-up is unstable, resulting in an ever-shifting and icky skin-condition. #17 incorrect. That is the first place she went after her arrival, though.

The backstory of the Justice Experience, with J’onn J’onzz as the Bronze Wraith, first appeared in Chase (I agree with you Fenris. Great series.) It was later used in J’onn’s own book in a couple of stories, before that great series was cancelled.

10- Sector 1014!!

YES I GOT ONE!!

WOOAH Go me!!

Go, you!

3.) In the recent JLA/Avengers crossover, it was asserted that Wally West, AKA the Flash, was unable to access the ‘Speed Force’ that grants him his powers, while in the Marvel Universe. Cite the evidence that seemingly invalidates this assertion, which comes from a previous book. [Toughie]

Doesn’t the Flash access it in a battle/race with Quicksilver in the Marvel VS DC series?

I know why Deadpools disfigured too, but I cant remember. Bah!

You know, after that question was posted, it occurred to me that past Marvel-DC crossovers have shown Wally moving at superspeed. Let me clarifying the question now : What event in mainstream Marvel continuity indicates that the Speed Force should be present in that universe?

Aha! Can Storms godson, the Kenyan kid who runs really fast use it? I forget his name, but he uses a similar power to the Flash, to escape the Shadow King I seem to recall in an old X-Men story. Kwembe? is that him?

It’s a bit … well, I was going to say more obscure, but that’s pretty obscure in and of itself. To prove the Speed Force functions in the Marvel Universe, a core Marvel book must refer to the Speed Force itself in a reasonably-identifiable fashion, or demonstrate a character running at Super-Speed whom we know uses the Speed Force… which would have to be a character reasonably-identifiable as a DC character.

There. That’s enough hint. It is a strange hybrid of trivia and critical thinking, though.

I must regrettably note that one and a half of the answers to the current batch of questions have been given in another thread on this very board… sigh. We’ll see if those folks pop over here to post them though.

Starting in the 1960’s, the Archie Comics kids made periodic appearances as superheroes.

Give the Secret Identity of each character.
